Depends on the seller. From what I have been told (I am still waiting to receive mine), the shell will have a different feel than the original, but the internals should be the same and performance should match.

 

It should indeed be different housing for most part, there some alienware logo'd ones too. You can use Cherry DG2 on 3.0 too (its fun)

 

The difference will be better side buttons, stiffer cable, and slippier rubber sides. Internals should be the same. Incase you're wondering, I bought my black SS edition from Dacheng2009 on eBay, but it has not yet arrived.

Some of them are "legit" in the sense they have all the IE3.0 internals, some of them aren't. Depends on the seller. A few users here got trash ones from dacheng so I'd stay away from them even if they normally do send good ones.

 

I'm on Windows 8.1, so no. I have tried my G502 at 125Hz and was fine with it, but if I feel it is necessary, I will go to windows 7 to overclock my usb port. (There are many tutorials, just google it tbh). Also, there are motherboards such as the asrock fatal1ty series that have an overclocked port to be used in windows 8.

Yes, we talked about this. Unfortunately, on eBay, he is probably the most reliable seller in China for the SS IE 3.0 as far as I know. I hope mine is legit.

 

Well, I would say takasta is the most reliable but I have no idea if he still sells stuff.

 

I tried signing USB OC driver my self once and it worked on Windows 8.1. Though it's a real pain in the ass to do and you'll be better off with Windows 7 anyways or a mouse that actually supports polling rate 500 or above.

Its like playing russian roulette! more expensive but to-be-sure minus well get the modkit stuff yourself and do it to a stock 3.0.

From the looks of it, he still sells the steelseries WMOs, but not IE 3.0s

 

Well, if you're willing to, probably, waste approximately 2-3 hours. Sure. I won't promise you 100% success rate.

Should be a different shell and same internals, but fakes exist.

 

i bought a SS mod rubberized 3.0 from wfyb on ebay. Took off the shell and the internals looked legit - omron switches, microsoft pcb. Pic below. The shell is definitely not genuine though, no holographic sticker and its clear blue. I doubt they go to lengths to transfer the genuine serial # and everything to the custom shell.

It identifies in windows as an MS IE3.0 and i overlocked it to 1000hz without issues.
