I have an ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE, and it will not boot with my 7950 inside. I have tested the 7950 in 2 other boards, and the integrated graphics (HD 4000 on 3570K) works just fine.
The VGA_LED is ON when the GPU is in the system, but is off when it isn't. I have tested it in other PCI-E slots, and I have tried resetting the CMOS and updating the BIOS. I do not have any other GPUs to test, as my only other one is an AGP card (nVidia 6200 GT) and I cannot test with another PSU as I do not have one. If there is any other information you need to know, please let me know.

Yes. Something interesting that I just found out, is that the monitor is an extended display (I have both DVI (GPU) and HDMI (iGPU) plugged into my monitor), and when I try to set it to use only the DVI (GPU), it black screens and doesn't show anything. So I think that it's VIRTU MVP that's making it work.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same problem with the same mobo and a 6970 card. Card is not recognized by BIOS so I can't access it, red vga led on but I can boot to windows just fine. No problem accessing the BIOS using the onboard GPU or an old GeForce 9500GT card. I've tried flashing with ever available BIOS as well.

I ended up exchanging the board for a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H. Couldn't be happier. 0 problems with this board. I suggest you either contact ASUS about the problem, or exchange the board like I did. I have not found a solution for the problem though, but you could try upgrading the mobo BIOS if you haven't already.

One of the first things I tried. At this point I feel like I should replace ether the GPU or the mobo, just wish I new which one's the cause of the issue. When I switched the SATA ports I had to remove the card so I guess it could have been damaged then but I highly doubt it, I was properly grounded and I work as an Apple service tech so I'm pretty sure I know how to handle electronic components

One thing that comes to mind that kind of makes me suspect there could of been an issue with the GPU to start with is that sometimes with y old mobo it wouldn't pass POST when I tried to boot and would then start with a reset BIOS but I just thought that was a bad CMOS battery and didn't care about replacing it since I was planing of replacing the mobo soon anyways. Oh well, I have support tickets logged with both ASUS and XFX so we'll see what they have to say. Thanks for your help

In my experience, the GPU is just fine. Try swapping the mobo. During my research, this isn't a widespread issue, so a replacement might fix it.
