i am having a little bit of trouble with my GPU.
everything started a few months ago, not too long after i finished my first build, when one time i power up my PC and it wouldn't post. MB says b2. as the title suggests, its "Legacy Option ROM Initialization" error and a few google searches later i realized it is a problem with the PCI-E connection itself.
not sure why i didn't RMA the card, but to fix this problem i had to fiddle a bit with the card. i.e. i found out this problem is fixed by lifting the right part of the GPU (that is hanging with no real support) but the moment i stop the problem happens again. if i try to very carefully redo the pci bracket connection in a way that the screws aren't to tight, and the bracket is a bit loos and a bit far from the case PCI slot, it works. or if not i try VERY carefully lower the card from a lift from the saggy part and then it "magically" works. also if i push the card outward from the side of the bracket (so the saggy part goes the opposite direction) and the card is lifted it works too.
important specs:
MoBO: ASUS Maximus V Formula
GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 OC 950 Mhz Edition
Case: Antec Eleven Hundred
after all of that (it is ongoing from about september-ish) i narrowed it down to a few possible sources of the problem:
1) Faulty PCI-E Connection on the MoBo (mostly the top one, tried the second which works almost always but can get the error if i dont screw the pci bracket)
2) The card's weight is too much for the PCI bracket and PCI-E connection alone
3) Faulty PCI-E connection on the GPU
4) possibly bend the PCI-E Connection on the card or mobo.
5) Faulty PCI slots on the case
6) Maybe over tightened the screws so much that i have done irreversible damage to the card.
7) Bad installation of MoBo (i.e. in the case with the stand offs)
8) else?
if anyone have any solution, i'd appreciate it very much
Edit: thanks for the transfer (i didn't really know where to post it)
