Best Half life 2 mods in your opinion? (non-multiplayer)

I don't know what rock I've been living under, but I've just now got into half life 2 mods. I think before I was just entertained with other games too much to care. But now, I'm liking the half life 2 mods for some reason. So I thought I'd stop by and ask you what your favorite non multiplayer mods are, for half life 2.

I say non-multiplayer for two reasons. 1, every one that I've tried says something like "Your map differs from the server. So piss off" and 2. I'm just not into all those Counter strike, Call of duty, mindless endless kill each other games. So I'm not loving the multiplayer mods so much. So I'm only looking for the good single player mods.

1. Cinematic Mod 10.. hate the slutty alex model and the creepy eli model though. It just adds viduals but it's really sweet.
2. Minerva, amazing (the guy now works for valve because he did such a good job)
3. Research and Development, short but very very sweet, many lulz.. especially the end

These are not in order btw.

Obsidian Conflict. It is anything you want it to be. All co-op, from puzzles to betting arenas to objective-based NPC combat maps. It. Has. Everything. I've spent more time playing OC than any other HL2 mod, simply because it has great maps and great fun.

All the suggestions so far are very good. If you're looking for more, my sig has tons and tons, with download links and such.

And as for multiplayer mods, just make sure you use the latest version. The issue with them though, is it seems that there can only be around 10 or so active mods at any given time, people jump mods and it becomes a flavor of the week thing. If a multiplayer mod hasn't had an update in the last 6 months, there's a very good chance that you won't be able to find anybody to play with, unless it's a very well-loved mod.

So is this a mod that you play through, or something that lets you just make stuff?

Ok I'll give it a try. But do you have to play co-op?

Will this work with other mods too? Would it make "Minerva" or "The Citizen" look better too? Or will it only affect the original Half life 2 game and expansions?

And if you take a look at their official page, its a little confusing. Why do they still have all the older versions of the mod available? Looks like they're all the way up to version 10. Why would you need all the other versions for something like this? Seems like all you would be interested in would be the latest and greatest.

Well, the mod has gotten more resource consuming with every version. And no, CM10 will only change HL2, HL2 E1, and HL2 E2. It's a completely standalone mod, not like some filter or skin. The whole thing is somewhere around the avenue of 15GB, and it changes everything about the game, essentially updating it to 2010 standards. I think it has a large effect on the engine of the game; it looks like DX10.

Yeah, it only runs on 64bit systems as well. It requires a memory patch to run on the start of HL2.exe, which allows stack sizes of over 4gb.

Please excuse my noob ignorance. But what is a "stack size"?

Also, I went ahead and downloaded that cinematic mod 10. How can you tell for 100% certain that its all the way on? I say "all the way on" because I can tell something is different... but something is a little off. Alyx doesn't really look all that different. She still looks the same as she always has, but with seemingly better textures. The same for the rest of the game. It seems to have gotten a little darker, and the textures and music and some of the sound effects are better, but I'm having a hard time telling the difference between this, and just a good HD patch from valve. Its almost as if everything changed except the characters. They're supposed to look different.

How do you make it look like it shows on the cinematic mod's official website? Where their faces change and such?

Run the "Character Pimper" shortcut in your CM10 folder. That is how you change character models. CM10 allows for stock models, or a few HD versions. That said, you should notice huge differences in the mapping. You do not launch it with HL2, the steam shortcut for HL2 will be the exact same it always did. You need to launch via CM10's .exe . It should be in your start menu.
