it says to make a bootable cd...my question is can I use a cd? or do I need to use a dvd

How to update M4 firmware via CD:
  1. Have your SATA mode set to AHCI or IDE.
  2. Download 0309 firmware here: http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx
  3. Burn the .iso to a CD.
  4. Boot from the CD.
  5. Type "yes" when prompted to.
  6. Wait for it to complete.
  7. When complete turn the PC off.
  8. Turn said PC back on.
  9. Boot from SSD.
  10. Enjoy your updated Crucial M4.
How to update M4 firmware via USB:
  1. Have your SATA mode set to AHCI or IDE.
  2. Download 0309 firmware here: http://www.crucial.com/support/firmware.aspx
  3. Download and run this: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
  4. Select "Try Unlisted Linux ISO (New Syslinux)
  5. Browse to your Crucial SSD .ISO-file
  6. Select your USB drive
  7. If your USB drive is not formatted (Fat32) check the box
  8. Click "Create"
  9. Click "Ok"
  10. Reboot from the USB
  11. Type "yes" when prompted to.
  12. Wait for it to complete.
  13. When complete turn the PC off.
  14. Turn said PC back on.
  15. Boot from SSD.
  16. Enjoy your updated Crucial M4.

The newest is 0309...I think you may want to update yourself.

i dont think 009 and 0309 are the same thing...
