Has absolutely nothing to do with that. Current CPUs are more than capable enough, its just that Crysis is extremely bad at utilizing them efficiently as it was coded poorly and for out-dated hardware. In addition to that, the game is not even 64-bit, it is 32.

Its not about having "problems", its about wanting to play a 2007 game at maxed out settings with a 1080Ti and dropping below 60 fps on numerous occasions. Then opening up a monitoring program and realizing how bad the game is at utilizing your hardware and the fact that changing graphic settings has almost no effect on the framerate.

Really enjoyed playing Crysis 2, and Crysis 3 but I simply cannot sit down and play Crysis cause of the constant drops in frames. Crysis 2 and 3 might have been held back by consoles but at least they run well unlike Crysis, a PC exclusive

Playing an FPS at 30 fps? No thanks. Steam version has no 64-bit support and none of the binaries of 64bit work with it. And even with 64-bit people claim to have gained 10-15% performance gains but still dip below 60 at multiple occasions. Crysis is an overrated game, that is for sure. While the graphics are indeed of very high detail, especially for a game from 2007, the performance is as mentioned, abismal. I would expect drastically better performance from a true PC exclusive. The myth of Crysis being demanding is long gone, it is a poorly optimized game, that is all.

Is this because maybe it was developed to utilize only 1 or 2 CPU cores?

Yes, and it does a poor job even with those two cores. Additionally, it uses a very small amount of RAM and has loads of memory leaks throughout. The other two Crysis games not only look better but also run significantly better. With my 1080Ti I average about 100 fps in Crysis 2 and around 75 in Crysis 3. In Crysis I average around 50 and drop as low as sub 30 in some instances. Plus in 2 and 3 the framerate is consistent, in Crysis is like 140 in the jungle, and 45 in an Outpost and 30 in battle.

A Crysis thread in 2017? Hell yeah.

Check out the newly released Triptych total conversion mod. I have also uploaded the single player Intel Crysis Mapping Crysis since it has become hard to find. Some very fun total conversions in here.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4jCb2csBg06ZFVDdDdKTFVDMm8

As for performance, yeah it is permanently CPU bottlenecked although my performance is way higher than what others are saying here, at 2560 x 1440. I haven't played it on my Ryzen system yet, so I'll probably see reduced performance compared to my previous 6700k. I was getting 80-100 FPS typically, above max settings via mods (but not the most resource intensive graphics mods either).

@boredgunner lol you always loved Crysis.
Triptych played it last month, liked it .My favorite mod for Crysis all time is Vietcry.I even modded the mod I liked it.

Yes some of the Crysis map are getting harder to find,I deleted about 200Gigs of maps a couple years ago to save room on SSD.Now I have climbed back up to 135Gigs for my Crysis mods.

Thanks for sharing, I don't think I've played Vietcry. I just installed it. Nice to see another Crysis veteran around here. We all lost a bunch of Crysis mods because Crytek deleted just about all their crymod/mycrysis Crysis 1 mod database. Silly me had 5 mods on those sites and even more maps, all of them lost for eternity because for some reason I didn't upload them to ModDB.

I'm sure you know about this mod already, but for those who try Triptych also try The Worry of Newport if you haven't. It is from the same studio.

Lost Control mod is basically F.E.A.R. in Crysis. Pretty cool, not nearly as good as F.E.A.R. though.

And I reuploaded Training Zone 2 as well, a fun little map for screwing around. I meant to turn it into an awesome multiplayer map (Instant Action) back in the day, never got around to it. Funny thing is I still have my Crysis Wars server, though I don't run it anymore of course (can't anyway, the mod it uses is incompatible with the Gamespy fix mods).

I will leave you all with this:

Found the final version of the benchmark tool. Fileplanet still has it.

https://www.fileplanet.com/182784/180000/fileinfo/Crysis---Crysis-Benchmarking-Tool

Here are my results at 2560 x 1440, with an i7 6700k @ 4.4 GHz (not the Ryzen 7 in my sig, I'll post those results when I get my 1700X back from RMA), and above max settings (customized cvars, the only thing not maxed out is r_beams parameter which is set to 3 (optimized beams with glow support, default setting for very high). r_beams 1 (full res beams) is too CPU limited to be worth using. I ran the timedemos at default loop and time of day parameters.

Ignore the "Vista 64", that's not accurate. The resolution in the results is also inaccurate, I'm running 2560 x 1440 (had to set the benchmark tool to 2560 x 1600 since 2560 x 1440 isn't available, but I overrode it via cfg file).

I have run the benchmark a million times ,never give the full story.

It has never been about GPU for me it's always been CPU problem to run Crysis 1.I love the game but need CPU from the future to get 60FPS.Will run bench later after the fight.I still have it installed.

Yeah it will dip to the 40s on any system. Keep in mind there are several benchmark time demos by default. The Island ones are easy peasy, but the Harbor one is the real deal. Your screenshots show 32-bit, why not run it in 64-bit?

I'm very curious what kind of improvements a LN2 cooled, extremely overclocked (6 GHz?) 7700k would yield in this game.

I forgot to specify, by "my CPU" I meant the i7 6700k. My 1700X is actually being RMA'd as we speak. Performance results with the 1700X will be VERY interesting. No way it beats the 6700k in Crysis of course.

But I actually thought you wouldn't curbstomp my system on the Harbor level due to my 6700k.

If someone around here does extreme cooling, please test Crysis with a 6700k/7700k at the highest speed you can reach.

Yes the 6700k is way better CPU.LOL I read your post and new you benched with 6700k,just brain fart I guess.

Oh well I would also like to see some 5+ bench with those CPU.I am itching for new CPU.

Crysis Core level screens.I just played it again and I do like this level. Not sure why all the hate for this level .

I love that level. There's nothing else like it. I understand the dislike for the levels after that though, they seem a bit rushed. Nice screenshots, I haven't played the Crysis campaign in too long.

Crysis is known for having rushed levels. I absolutely loved the first four levels of Crysis 3 but everything that was after was complete garbage which I could not enjoy even in the slightest. Crysis 2 was actually the only game with consistent quality of levels throughout its entirety, hence why it is the instalment which I enjoyed playing the most.

You know what,I have yet to finish Crysis 3.It was just missing something for me(Maybe it was the limited modding of the game .I will have to go back and try it out.

I hear you there, but it is hard to go back and play an old game.Hell I have almost 2 hundred games installed and my to play list gets longer by the years. To many good games out there.

Agreed. C2 and its multiplayer were a blast. C3 had a really lame story and boring gameplay.
