Fractal Nexus 9P Slim Fan Hub - Motherboard Ports

This is my first time working with a fan hub. I'll be using an air cooler with 2 fans and 5 case fans in my Torrent case.

The manual says to connect the hub to the CPU Fan port on the motherboard, and it looks like then the actual CPU fan is supposed to daisy chain off of the hub. This seems like needless wires run around the case compared to using the CPU Fan headers right next to the socket.

Does anyone know if connecting the input of this fan hub to one of the Chassis Fan ports would cause any issues? I'm thinking the main intention is that every fan can ramp equally with the CPU fan profile, but I don't think that's what I want. I think I'd prefer to use the BIOS Fan settings to adjust to the CPU, and then the Chassis fans can still be set up to react to system temp on a different curve. I just want to make sure there's not some deeper reason why the hub connects to the CPU header, so I don't screw anything up or short something out.

doesn't matter where as long as it's a PWM header and not a 3-pin. the header is only used for an RPM reading (of Fan1) and PWM control since it's got external power.

Hey Pook! Nice to see you're still around all these years later. Does my heart good.

I pretty much assumed any PWM connection would work, but you helped alleviate my worries.

That Gamers Nexus video is why I had any concern in the first place. Just bought the case off Amazon this week. So in theory it's new, but who knows how long it sat in the Amazon warehouse. Is there a serial number or version code or something I should be looking for?

The manual says v1.1 in the front.

Looking at the stock (non-RGB) fans, looks like their max Amperage is only 1.5
180mm fans are 0.35A each (.7 total)
140mm fans are .25A each (.75 total)

So I think I should be good either way.

The quickest way to tell is to look at the hub itself, there were design changes made when the part was revised.
Here is a nice photo showing the differences, the revised model is the top one.

Only the cases sold during the first week or so had the faulty part so I'd say there's a pretty good chance you are fine then.

Also 2006 gang gotta represent! woo!

Perfect, looks like they have the rings around the screw mounts (which I imagine was the issue), so I should be good.

Thanks for the photo!
