As for the board, I'm going to keep it and hope that Gigabyte fixes this via BIOS update\
Edit: I may grab the ASUS P8H77-I mITX for $100

Thanks for the empirical evidence and somewhat satirical video. I bet someone left out or messed up a single line of code for the bios lol. Anyway, I'm sure they'll implement it eventually, but I'm going with another Asrock z77e-itx instead.

I've been using my Samsung laptop as a Plex server along with a Plex client on thir Roku. but I need a permanent server solution, so my laptop can once again become mobile. I originally thought I could do all this with a Raspberry Pi or another small, high performance arm box via XBMC, but I don't have enough time to sudo and get everything setup lol. A windows system with an Intel CPU (2105 or 3570K) will obviously be faster and it will double in use as an HTPC.
In case you're curious about those internet speeds, I have a friend out in Phoenix who has a similar package through Century Link and he loves it.
I didn't realize you could link a Plex client over the internet. I have almost zero experience with it, or XBMC for that matter, but it is something I've been interested in looking in to. On the internet speeds, unfortunately my parents live outside a small town in Montana, and currently have a 386kbps connection. They'll be moving into town shortly but their speed will only bump to 5MB down and 1MB up... which is lightspeed compared to what they've been using, but probably not enough to stream from Plex (although that won't stop me from trying

Er, what? Where? I've never seen it lower than $149.99 + $7 s/h, which is what it's at now. I just ordered mine from Amazon for the same price but Prime shipping. Probably wouldn't cancel for the NewEgg price just cause I want it by Friday

Yes, you can either use the same account as your parents (what I do) or you can have two separate accounts and share specific stuff with their account. Also, 5 down on their end should be plenty. I actually tested the whole thing over my laptops 5Ghz wifi last night, and they told me buffering/wait time was 30-40 seconds, which is only 10-20 more than usual. I was a little surprised it wasn't buffering throughout, but they claimed everything ran smoothly after initial buffering.

They send out coupons to certain customers, so I have a 10% off select Asrock motherboards promo, It's BTEJNJE46 but I'm almost 100% sure you needed to have received the email. I also have shoprunner, which makes shipping free. Anyway, I probably wouldn't cancel if I were you. I've owned the board in the past, boot up times are incredible, and you can overclock non K i5/i7 chips four multi/ratios higher than it's max turbo. Lastly, the Broadcom chip on the Asrock board is much better than the Realteks on the Gigabyte

What is your parents connection? (or they are the ones with the 40/20?)

Ahh, I gotcha. I was considering having to replace the Wi-Fi with an Intel one as you did but my router is only about 15 feet away, with no walls, so I don't imagine it will be to bad. Do you know if it's dual-band? Website only mentions 2.6Ghz but I thought I'd double check.

Mine is 40/20, there is 5/1.

The Asrock comes with b/g/n, so there's no 5Ghz. I don't think 5Ghz is needed, but I'll still probably replace mine with an extra Intel N6300 I have from before.

We just verified the motherboard in our lab, due to the low power phase it won't have the option to modify the CPU Vcore, sorry for the inconvenience.

Come on Gigabyte. Even my H61 from them has voltage control.

Well that and they even told me that Ctrl + F1 should work.. I replied saying I want a full refund

Edit:

Looks like after a couple of replies they will honor the refund

Sucks that the Asrock H77 has a realtek chip in it, gah I don't need the Z77

Question : Yes okay.. now because of this I would like a refund, will you honor this?
Answer - 1277217
Answer : Dear customer,

This is an hardware limitation, this particular motherboard just doen't have the feature that you're looking.

Question : Then I would like to get a full refund on my board from the place I bought it

Not all motherboards have overvolting/undervolting capabilities. I know for a fact that the P8H77-I does not have overvoltage or undervoltage, and now neither the H77N-WiFi. The best bet for you is to try the H77M-ITX and see if that works for you. Last chance would be just to use a Z77 mini-ITX motherboard.

Got it...

Got a copy of the datasheet this morning in my email from Intersil

**Now - the first pic is poor quality.. but i can see there is no surface mounted resistor on the backplane that connects to 'FB'. The orientation in the first photo, has pins 11-20 located along the right side of the chip as it sits in the picture [notice the small dot in corner to indicate alignment].

This means that you need to locate the 'dive-through' on the front side of the PCB.. where there will be a small surface mounted resistor. It should have continuity to the 'FB' pin on one side of the resistor... and continuity to ground on the other; if it does -> this is your mod point. Measure and post the resistance here in the thread please.. with a better pic or two if you can manage as well.
wink.gif

The formula for calculating your VR size for vcore mod is : [r* 20] = ~size for VR needed for mod, where stock resistance value = 'r'

Good luck.. I will look back for your post.

edited the pic.. you are definitely in the right spot on that last pic in your above post.

**FB pin marked in orange

Measure there for resistance to ground. Then probe those 2x resistors in your pic, just beneath the caps. One of them will have the same resistance value on one side.. and will be connected to ground on the other. We can use it as a mod point.. or the spot on the mobo I have marked is suitable mod point as well. Please measure/record/post resistance value.

**Do you have another CPU for this mobo to test? - It is picking vcore.. so resistance value should be related to your current vcore setting. We will call this our new "stock" value.

So since the Gigabyte Z77 doesn't have any voltage control, any concrete data that the ASRock / Asus Z77 mITX boards do?
