my PSU is corsair cx500 builder series.

it has 34amps on its +12 volt rail.thx.
or should i get a 7970 instead, will this psu do the trick.i dont want to upgrade my psu,its new you see.
500W will be plenty of power. You will have a good amount left over. Your entire system draw with a GTX 680 shouldn't go over 400W.

HOWEVER, that particular model only has 408W on the 12V+ rail, so I suggest a better quality 500W PSU.

go with 550w to be safe

the GTX 680 has a TDP of about 180-195w
around the same as my stock GTX 260 thats 180-195w

so i would suggest a minimum of 550w and 650w minimum for SLI

my crappy power-supply has 600W on its 12v rails( @ 50-60A i think )and its struggled with SLI GTX 260`s drawing 360-390w

so i would suggest a minimum 550W quality PSU for 1 GTX 680 or a minimum of 650W for SLI

550W is enough, they over estimate. The cards are really using about 450W with the system but that's before overclocking... The amps though are a red flag for me. I would personally get a little better PSU as I don't think it will be able to provide the amps. If overclocking it's definitely not going to work... The 7970 will be the same deal as the GTX 680.

If you are willing to spend $500 on a GPU there's no reason why you should have a $60 PSU. PSUs are very important, I would upgrade it to a higher end corsair before buying the GPU. Any 600-70W from corsair would be plenty since it would have more amps.

With a 680 in game, you would only pull 350 from the wall if that. I've seen reviews where 3dmark11 on extreme pulled 285watts with a 680 and a x3960 at 4.6Ghz. People think you need mass amounts of power for gaming rigs

Just look at me. Nvidia say i need 1KW. I have 850w.

Plenty of power. Uses the same if not slightly more power.
