hello guys...

my understanding to the memory interface in a graphic card is that the higher the memory interface the higher resolution we can play at, so 256 bit is more better than 128 bit, and the same goes to the memory type ... so GDDR5 allows higher resolution than DDR3/GDD3...

but there are some cards that are GDDR3 with 256 bit , and others are GDDR5 but with 128 bit, so in such case... which one would be better ??
I know that there is more aspects to look at in a gfx card than only those 2, but I am asking about this now.

thanks.

What are the graphics cards that are an option?

there are much much more important factors than the RAM
well... I am thinking of making a minor upgrade to my PC, which will be the gfx card, and I am looking at either the HD 5770 or 9800GT... I only looked on those 2 ones because of the availability of the other cards in my country, and the high prices that are out of my budget, so I will almost get one of those or the GTS 250.

the 9800gt is outdated.

the cards you should get that are the best performace/price cards in each price range are:

50$ - gt 240
80$ - gts 250
120$ - 5770

Your PSU cant handle any more than those cards. the gts 250 is probably to powerful, so its either the gt240 (similar to the 9800gt performance wise, but cheaper and newer) or the 5770 ( which is much more powerful and you will enjoy much more, no matter what type of ram it has)

I took a look at the GT240, and as for the PSU... some told me that it can handle the Hd 5770, but I have a brand new 800w PSU 80 plus, which is still in its box... I will see if I will use it instead.

thanks though.

The GT240 is not similar to the 9800GT, more to the 9600GT and actually loses in a few tests againsts the 9600GT.

OP, I would look into the 5770.

oh. well if you can use that, i would try to find a gtx 465 on the cheap for 180$ or a little less maybe. check out slickdeals.com since they have some pretty sweet links.

that psu can handle pretty much any card there is right now

I am in Syria... and the Fermi cards are still expensive like hell.... I don't know how much the U$ dollar for the Syrian pound today... but I will tell you that I can get the HD 5770 for 6200 SP, while the Fermi cards here are still as follows: MSI GTX 465 = 16500, the GTX 470 = 19000, and other sell it like : 23000, and the GTX 480 is 32000, while the HD 5970 2G is : 41000.

Whoa there captain, I thought you were looking for a minor upgrade! xD

I'd highly recommend the 5770; It seems to be best for you.

As stated above, don't get too caught up with the memory type and stuff. Concentrate more on how much memory the card's got.

Oh. Also remember the only way to compare ATI's "stream processing units" to nVidia's "processing cores" is BENCHMARKS.
Take a look at charts like below that compare fps of different games/scores.
Eventually when you know what you need, you'll have to pick a preference.

Here's just a few examples.
Tom's hardware site has tons of these.
