Is there any way I can lower my LOD on my WMO?

Lift-off distance is entirely sensor-dependant. Opticals are known to have significantly higher life-off distances. If that's important to you, go laser. It's one of the main reasons I really don't care for optical.

Well my old Sensei RAW had a really high LOD, and it was laser. My WMO has a lower LOD but not as low as I want it. Is there a trick to lowering the LOD?

I guess there are exceptions to every rule, but laser generally have lower LOD and opticals generally have higher.

I'm not aware of any tricks with modifying mice to change LOD.

Ahh yeah, I ran past that a many moons ago. I've never had a need for it, so it didn't stick.

The tape trick works because it's like this:

(1) The sensor is looking straight down onto the surface.
(2) There is a light illuminating that spot. That light is shining from the side, not straight down like the sensor.
(3) When you lift the mouse from the surface, the sensor still looks straight down. Because the light shines from the side, the illuminated spot moves away.
(4) The sensor stops tracking if the distance to the surface is getting so large that the illuminated spot moved away completely.

The tape trick cuts off a part of the light, making the illuminated spot smaller. Because of this, it will stop illuminating the area under the sensor earlier than normal, creating a lower lift-off-distance.

This is why I have a black, grey, and white Supermat for my storm Xornet.

The Xornet also has some odd ability to have different LOD's with different firmwares. ( I forget which one I decided to keep but it works well for me. )

I used the cm storm spawn with fw61 on a white surface, the artisan shiden it lowered the lod significantly.
