In stead of double sided tape, you may want to try a product called "Gorilla Snot"... non permanent, cleanable, just makes a tacky surface for traction. This is used for drum sticks and guitar picks to keep sweat from lubricating surfaces that need tack, but can keep adhesive from gunking up the wood.

 

Some double sided tape should do the trick

 

Uggh, it's become an echo chamber of "double sided tape"...yes everyone on this planet is aware of this "magic" substance, maybe he wants the option to move the mouse pad, maybe he doesn't want the lint covered remnants of adhesive to live with him for the longevity of the desk. This is OCN, we should offer more graceful solutions than tape/nail/screw/staples.... that being said, 3m makes a clear mounting tape for glass that peals clean with no residue.... I'm going to go punch myself to sleep for the irony of that last bit.

Clean the table thoroughly, then wipe the bottom of the mouse pad with a damp cloth. It should then stick perfectly to the table.

As said, tape. If you purchase the QcK, the bottom is coated with a textured rubber and will not slide.
I'm currently using a QcK Mass on a glass desk and it has quite a lot of grip.

I own several QCK mousepads, I believe they are the best one Imo. And I've tried several ones by different companies but the Steelseries ones the surface doesn't peel off and the underside of it is rubberized with quality rubber meaning that it doesn't slide easily.
Like the poster I quoted I also use a QCK on a glass table and it doesn't slide anywhere... I don't see how laminated wood would be an issue for them.

Actually...someone had a real novel solution. I'm not sure if it works, or what it might do to your pad, but he wasn't telling you to put hair gel on your mouse pad. That's not the same company is it?

Yeah...Gorilla Snot. Um, it sounds gross, but there is similar schools of thought on picks amongst guitarist as mouse surfaces amongst mice enthusiasts. It either needs to become immediately tacky and disgusting to prevent movement, or it needs to be dry as a bone and adhere to fingertips. Sounds like a familiar argument right? Fortunately, most competent musicians are always kinda unkempt and greasy and don't need a product like gorilla snot

to prevent themselves from chasing the pick out of their hand. But...there ARE tackening products and I kinda would like someone to test them now.

My desktop is glass, so I'm out.

Edit: Remember in the 90's that disgusting petri-dish of tackening gel that existed at every checkout counter in existence? And your cashier just dipping his/her fingers into it, because it was IMPOSSIBLE to handle ANYTHING otherwise.
