I got a Samsung Captivate and I would like to use it to read books.

What are some good apps that would allow me to do so?

iirc there's a Kindle app. Barnes and Noble also have a Nook app for Android

i can only imagine how quickly reading a book and having the display on for that long will kill the battery.

If you already own the ebook, use Aldiko. Otherwise, buy through google books, amazon kindle store, or the nook store. All good apps. Aldiko is my favorite, then nook.

The Kindle app is complete garbage. I actually cracked my Kindle books so I wouldn't have to use the app.

Aldiko is by far the best eBook reader on Android.
