I have a very simple question currently i am using a 5960x, i have happen to aquire a 6950x it will be in my possession on this coming sunday. I want to ask the difference between 5960x and 6950x other than which is projected i.e. core differential, in both encoding and gaming.... i have an asus rampage v edition 10 mobo which is a board meant for intel 6th gen HEDT cpus and a 1080Ti, i play games at 4K...

BW-E is around 6% faster than HW-E per clock. You will need around +200 MHz over BW-E to match it with HW-E.
Unless the app/game can detect 10 cores, the performance increase is negligible.
If you have a good 5960X that can do 4.5 GHz+ then the 6950X will be a side-grade in most games, because it usually tops out at 4.2/4.3 GHz.

For games you won't feel any difference at all.
For encoding, yeah, there will be an improvement from the aditional 4 threads, but nothing to be impressed over, given you already have an 8c/16threads CPU thats pretty fast.

I have my reasons i was using my 5960x on an asus rampage v edition 10 board which is meant for 6th gen broadwell pros like the 6850k etc no doubt the board supports the 5960x but it won't run xmp profile and had poor overclocking because of bad optimization before the 5960x i had a 6850k and xmp profiles as well overclocking worked like a charm, i have a feeling i made the right choice
