Is it normal for gsync to cause flickering during games (not loading screens)?

I know gsync will cause stuff like loading screens to flicker, but is it normal to happen during actual gameplay? I definitely notice it at times while playing WoW. After testing it a bit, it seems to get more and more noticeable if I lower my fps cap - and I can also start to see a type of grid-like pattern across the entire screen as it gets down around 50-60 fps. Even when hovering around 140 fps, I can still notice a slight flickering. I have vsync turned off ingame and in Nvidia control panel. I have my FPS capped at 140 via Rivatuner.

Running on a Asus Strix GTX 1070.

try prefer max performance on gpu, and try no fps cap with vsync on, nvidia has always recc you live you vsync on when gsync is on.

also, if that doesnt work, try pre-rendered frames at 3 or 4 in global nvidia settings...

Yes, V-Sync has to be ON for G-Sync to work correctly from what I have seen. Otherwise there are stutters and other anomalies. I just use a global FPS cap to keep the FPS slightly off the max refresh rate to prevent input lag. Also, use the in game V-Sync setting and not the NVIDIA control panel one. Suppose to work better overall.

Tried turning vsync on and still see the flickering. You don't have to use vsync with gsync, btw. Vsync does nothing until you hit your max refresh, then it turns on.

I'm super sensitive to flicker. I could never own a plasma because I would see flickering while others saw nothing. Hoping this just isn't a normal thing for gsync, because I really like the tech.

Monitor is a Acer XB241H btw.

That's not true. I've tried capping FPS below refresh rate with G-Sync ON and V-Sync both on and off. In some games I will get a regular stutter if V-Sync is OFF.

The best configuration I've seen to get a perfectly smooth, stutter, input lag and tear free experience is the following:

1. G-Sync = ON in NVIDIA control panel and/or monitor.
2. V-Sync = ON in game.
3. FPS cap in game to one below max refresh or use FPS cap in Rivatuner statistics server if you can't find a way to cap in game or the setting doesn't exist.

You will only notice the stutter in G_Sync with V-Sync OFF if you do a smooth/scrolling view or movement. V-Sync is ON by default whilst using G-Sync by design.

Another thing to do in order to get the best performance is use the G-SYNC option called "Enable G-SYNC for windowed and full screen mode". The default is just for full screen mode and for some reason, I get superior results in full-screen games with the 2nd option selected that I am recommending.

Could you quantify superior results? That selection should have no affect on anything when running full screen.

Oddly i had a bit of flicker with latest drivers. Rolled back 1 version and its fine.

I'm mostly getting flickering where the fps has wide swings constantly across the 30-144hz range which is a lot of the time in a game like WoW, its come to a point where i've turned gsync off. Is it a little less smooth? Sure, but i got used to it already, the flickering was far more distracting. I think my next monitor will just have freesync and i may use it or may not, depending on what GPU i'll have, but at least i'll spend less on the monitor when i find a suitable replacement to my current XB240H.

Hi I have the same issue..

Are we talking about that ?
?

I tried many things, figured out that using Fast Sync will fix the flicker issue but will induce some stuttering in game so it's not a solution.

I saw that putting the screen at 95hz instead of 100hz will fix it but it doesn't work for me.

i can't RMA anymore .

It's not visible in every game which is quite weird.

Anyone got a solution for that since the last post on this topic?
