Is there a big difference between a 2666mhz and 3600mhz?

I know higher speed number is always better but I want to know how much of a noticeable difference is there between 2666mhz ram and 3600mhz ram on an i9 9900k and Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra. I will be gaming and general productivity. FYI, the difference in price between the two "identical" sets I'm looking at getting is $150. One set is 18-18-18-43 1.20V while the other set is 18-22-22-42 1.35V. How much of a difference in performance speed would I be missing out in games and general productivity if I went with the cheaper set? Thank you for your help!

Why not get something in between like a 3200 MHz kit?

Yea, you know what? I think I'm getting a 3200 Mhz kit from OLOy OWL. Price is between the two and the performance is better than both it seems.

According to your sig you got some 3200 cl14. Why not add another kit

bc I'm getting 128gb

well the one with 18-18-18-43 1.20V is 2666mhz so yea you are right, it's pretty bad. Hence why I went for the owl

Not sure I understand your question.

😂🤣 Nope wrong sr Bdie will slap around dr anything other than possibly djr or super binned rev e which do 5000+

In my case, I've never seen any improvement due to faster ram. Where I've seen improvements is with More Ram as even at 2133, it's still faster then any drive (rust/ssd) offers in bandwidth.

What I need is maximum ram so although I'd love to go with a faster memory, I'm going with 3200 as it's the best bang for buck right now and 4x 32GB sticks since I'm currently running 64gb.

update report so I got the 2666 set and overclocked it to 3067mhz at 16 18 18 38 stable

I tried out a new set of owl oloy 3200 16 20 20 38 and it was unstable at advertised settings

With 32 Gb x 4 you will likely struggle to stabilize 3600 anyway. Likely why the 3200 wouldn't work.

With that much ram and current costs, I wouldn't advise in spending that much just to go to 3600, you should just stick with the current ram until you are ready to move onto DDR5.

From what I recall, 2666 kits didn't really scale to high, I had a 2x16 2666 ballistix kit that could only manage 3000CL14 before my current kits.

What do you actually use 128 Gb for anyway? And which motherboard do you have < motherboard is very important for ram overclocking.

I'm going to take a guess and think you are running on a Gigabyte Auros Z390? These boards cannot even stabilize 2x16 3200 CL16, I know because I tried.

Oh right there we go, its in your sig after I clicked on the arrow. You will not 3200+ on a Gigabyte Auros Z390 / Z370 no matter what you try.

I just have a lot of things open at the same time is all. Mostly its a game with a lot of plugins and mods tho with poor coding and memory leaking since the developers refuse to support 3rd party software that I use along side the game, Nothing I can do ab really other than get more ram, which now allows me a much smoother experience playing the game hours at a time, even tho technically performance is worse. as for the mobo, this is not the exact same situation as you but prev I had a stable 4x8gb 3200 CL16 on the same mobo I have now.
