Update: found out it's tied to the system. Sweeet

 

Yeah, many of us were like that when we saw it was a digital download.

I was so pissed off I went and bought the figurine limited edition physical copy of the game because I wanted the disc. Now I have an extra copy of the game.

But well, they don't expire. I guess I'll sell it for dirt cheap to a friend eventually

 

I really hope Nintendo gets their act together with this stuff. Lost a lot of games switching to a 3DS XL.

Yeah. It's very weird that games aren't tied to an account.

Just make the account bindable to a single device of the same kind (if you bind it elsewhere the first device gets unbound), and be done with mutliple people playing with one account.

 

I made the big mistake of restoring the system. Reading online it sounded like all downloaded content was tied to the system itself, not the NNID. As it turns out it's tied to the NNID, which I don't have anymore and the seller can't remember. So I'm out $49.99 for Zelda Wind Waker HD. Called Nintendo Support but they couldn't help me without being the owner of the original NNID.
