Don't take it for granted because I'm a soft pad user for years, but I heard quite some good things about the Rocketfish hard pad.

 

I bought one recently from their website so they are still in business, it did take them a few days to process the order.

But be warned, it's a small mousepad even though their website says 'it's huge'. I would highly recommend you buy an HDPE sheet instead, same sheet as the Ratpadz. I ended up doing that and the glide is better than the Ratpadz. Compared them side by side and I always prefer the sheet. If you have wood cutting tools or have a friend who can do it for you, then I suggest you buy a textured sheet from Amazon and cut and sand it to your shape. Add some rubber gripping feet and you have yourself a high quality, very durable mouse pad.

If you don't then do what I did. I bought mine through iplasticsupply.com. Contacted them via email and gave them specs I wanted (14"x10"x0.5"). Would suggest you get a thinner pad though, Ratpadz is 0.25" i thickness.

Another warning, HDPE surfaces don't work well with 3310 sensors.

Never heard of that mousepad either, I'm very interested in the Steelseries DeX, anyone got anything about it? Any review? It's a very expensive mousepad and there's barely any information I could find using Google, even when searching in different languages like Spanish and Deustch.

Bro, I know it's been a while and I didn't really got into buying a piece of plastic for a mousepad, so I tried several more Mousepads and I'm still not happy with them, so I'm willing to give it a try, I searched for a HDPE sheet on Amazon, most of them are either way too thick or way too big, the only one I found on the right size is white, will it be alright?

I'd appreciate if you could link one that you'd recommend, or the one you're using, also I don't know what exactly I have to look for, what makes a sheet of plastic glides the best? Should I use pledge with it? I heard its self lubricating or something so pledge would ruin it, and if I happen to use pledge which "style" would be the best? Lemon or extra moisturizer?

I just saw your pictures and I just got my hands sweaty and excited about touching this surface!

So I take you've tried the Ratpadz, an HDPE sheet and a sunboard, between the HDPE sheet and the sunboard which offer the best glide with the lesser control? Was the sunboard better than plain HDPE?

As you can see I just bought the one I linked you, which is 12x12 0.18 thickness, I believe this is very thin and the perfect size, costed me 6$ on Amazon, but since it's white opaque I'm wondering if it'll be inferior to a black/dark mousepad due to sensor preference?

Btw, I've also seen these UHMW Surfaces listed on Amazon, they seem to be higher quality than plain HDPE, do you have any experience with them?

lol you're going through the same motions that I did. Yes I did order UHMW through Amazon as well hoping they would be even better than Ratpadz. Mine came in bent and even then, the glide was pretty bad. I think that was because of how it was cut because there was horrible marks on the surface. Returned it the same day.

Right now, I have all three of those in possession. My friend who bought the seaboard tells me that it's not as picky about the sensor. On the regular HDPE, 3310 mice had issues with tracking so my mice selection was reduced to just a few. I didn't get to try any 3310 sensor on my sunboard so don't know how this will hold up. The glide between normal HDPE and sunboard is different, you can see in the pictures that the texture is much finer on the sunboard. They are both great and you really can't go wrong with either.

Not sure about the white color though. 12" by 12" is too small for me so I never got around to experimenting anything off Amazon (other than the UHMW) as everything else was way too big.

 

I've had a ratpad xt for years and I have no desire to switch. I find them to be perfect.

The sunboard glide is different than HDPE, but how different regarding its glide and effortless movement?

Could you say if one is better than the other regarding effortless glide?

Well the sunboard is a variation of HDPE so it's not that different. If I had to pick between the two, I would pick the sunboard primarily because of the size (other one is 14"x10"x0.375") but not the glide. I will be 100% happy with the glide of either.

They are both very effortless. I wish I had a 3310 mouse and I could test if it has tracking issues on the sunboard as well. I just tried out an Intelli 1.1 on both pads, with the slightest tilt, the mouse starts skipping on the HDPE but not on the Sunboard. If the same applies for 3310 sensors, then sunboard is the clear winner by far.

My main mouse is a G303 (sometimes G402), both of them have excellent sensors and they both work perfectly on both pads.

You mean the func pad? I've never tried them before but I know what you mean, when I tried the Razer destrucrtor II i was blown away because of the glide and I couldn't ever use anything made from cloth ever again, including the Steelseries DeX which is supposed to be the fastest cloth pad, which is slow next to the destructor II

I will be buying the sunboard as well as it isn't that expensive, and I will try them my self, comparing the white HDPE sheet with the sunboard.

I bought the Sunboard through a plastics company. If you order through them, you won't have the return privileges like Amazon.

I tried the Sunboard because my friend tried that Seaboard you linked to but couldn't keep it because of its massive size + no tools/skills to cut it.

From what the plastics company told me, Sunboard is a direct successor to Starboard and they are not familiar with Seaboard. I think Seaboard is proprietary plastic for Vycom and from what I can tell, it is a variation of Starboard.

I know these names are getting crazy. I'll just summarize it to this, if you have the tools and skills, get it from Amazon as they have the lowest price and return privileges. If not, contact a plastics company near you and see what they have to offer, or get it from the online store like I did.

No returns though, so if you don't like it (highly doubt you will not) then it will be a cutting board. In fact, if you do have an IKEA cutting board, then try gliding your mouse over that and see if you like it. Those are made of LDPE, similar to HDPE but less durable if I recall correctly.

$21 for a 0.25" x 12" x 15" deburred sheet of Sunboard. If it's as durable as my Ratpadz was, to call that a good value would be an understatement.

Otherwise the pad will move across the table.

The durability and consistency is what makes this such great value for money. Cloth pads are great but their glide changes over time and it eventually costs you more.

Please do another short review of this "pad" when you get a chance to use it. I might be interested in throwing money at this company too.

 

Hey, this all here made me curious aswell. Is the surface of a normal HDPE sheet like this http://www.ebay.de/itm/221787278482 textured at all?
Would this work for a pad? And what else would need to be done besides rounding the edges and applying anti slip material underneath? Also what would be better 2 or 3 mm thickness, i guess 2? Thanks in advance.

 

That seems to have no texture at all, I don't know how it will work.

Thickness, I'd prefer thinner.

 

Mhh are there any other textured HDPE sheets like this? Or are the only ones with that kind of texture the sun- sea- starboard sheets? Could be difficult to order one to germany. =)
