It is a known fact that Razer keeps pushing their crappy Synapse software for shady reasons; here and here just to name a few.
Unfortunately, new customers are not aware of that, at least not until it is too late and they already purchased Razer devices.
In my case, I am talking about the Huntsman V2 Analog keyboard and Viper Ultimate Wireless mouse (with the RGB Chroma Dock).
To be able to fully utilize these two peripherals, I need to keep this piece of crap Synapse 3 open at all times.
I can understand using the software for the initial setup and then never again unless you need to change something like actuation points or RGB, but Razer is just plain malevolent in this case.
For example, install Synapse 3, run it and configure everything you need.
As soon as the program is closed, all RGB settings return to the default rainbow profile.
Uninstall Synapse 3 and install OpenRGB
Run it, configure everything you need and then quit the program.
Surprise, surprise, RGB settings are not reverted to defaults, showing without a shadow of a doubt that Razer's Synapse is forcing these peripherals into default profile on purpose and that it is not just a hardware limitation.
Other Synapse "features":
1. The Chroma Dock for my Viper Ultimate has a feature to display the battery level of the mouse via RGB. When the mouse is not in use for some time, it enters standby automatically and the dock RGB just turns red as if the battery is depleted.
2. Install Synapse 3, set up everything you need, uninstall Synapse 3, install it again and surprise: all custom settings like actuation points that should have been stored on-board are lost and reset to default.
3. For quite some time, having Synapse open resulted in ghost keypresses, meaning that some keys would get "stuck", but only while Synapse was running. Quitting the program resulted in error-free operation. They fixed this in their latest version, but still a big disappointment.
Given that Razer has years of experience with their Synapse, is it hard to believe that such problems are just...problems and not something artificially created to force end-users to keep their bloatware running at all times.
I know this post sounds like a bitter rant and it is.
The worst part is that I really like these peripherals hardware-wise, but given my experience with their software, these will be the last ones I will ever purchase from them
