Trying to get some insight on shipping a PC that has the GPU installed already in the case. I know you can take the GPU out and ship it separately but I am trying to cut the cost of shipping another box. I am building a PC for a relative that lives out of state. Does anyone have any good ideas or experiences in shipping the PC as a unit? What are some thoughts?!

Thanks for your help!

I thought of that too, just wondered about having it installed and ready to go when they receive it they wont have to do any installation of a components thats all. Thanks you though for your help!

I thought this would be a good idea.

You would need to fashion some sort of brace for it, in case it takes a light beating so it simply doesn't snap off. What GPU is it? If its really small and bolted down it won't be an issue, some of the larger ones I wouldn't even attempt.

So yea, you could always use cardboard, like make a small "mold" (cutting and folding) to be placed inside the case, with bubble wrap? I dunno, the thought of it kinda makes me worried.

I'm sure if you simply wrapped it in bubble wrap and even tapped it to the inside of the case or zip tied it down or something and explained how dangerous it could be to ship it installed (if its a large card) and I'm sure they would understand, or perhaps thank you, for being so thoughful. No1 wants to receive a shipped computer with the GPU snapped off from the slot...

Would be easier to make a suggestion knowing the size of the card though...

Edit> Or better, and simpler, do what JRux suggested.

I had ordered a build from Cyber power Pc years ago and it came with the 8600GT already installed into slot. So going off that and seeing other pre-made builds shipped with cards in them already (HP, Dell, etc..) Id say it be safe to ship.

I was just about to open a new thread to try to figure out what damage I might have done by shipping my PC w/ a 560ti installed. Bad news.

Nothing appears broken, but it's all kinds of ****ed up: the seating is off, and I get major distortions on the display (seemingly at random) until I mess with the seating a little:doh:. I recommend removing it entirely if you for sure don't want to end up removing it after it arrives, like I've now done.

Shipped a PC that I built with two GTX8800 fitted, from Germany to Ireland and took over a week to get there, there was no problems.

Shipped a few computers years ago with clip on CPU coolers (AMD) and they all came off and wrecked the computers.

If it is bolted on, then it should be OK, if it is clipped on, then expect the worst.
