Ok so today I installed starcraft 2 and play for about 3-4 hours with no problem. Prior to playing it I played TF2 and BF:BC2 and mw2 all fine at stock clock at 1680x1050.

Once I finish starcraft 2 mini marathon I return to my desktop and everything is artifacting. Even now as I type this there are little dots jumping on my screen and is most noticeable on my right-click menu.

What gives? It worked fine just before and now I'm getting artifacts all over the screen.

Here is my info from CC

I read in Custom PC magazine that SC2 can make your GPU run really hot at the main menu because there is no frame rate cap or something along those lines

There is a patch for it I think but I don't play SC so I'm not sure.

Did you spend a decent amount of time on the main menu? As this could be the cause of the problem

I had heard that there was a bug with the menu in SC2 that uncapped the frame rates and apparently some peoples systems got damaged/fried because of this. I thought They patched it pretty early on though. Could have been this, but probably not.

I did have to download a patch but I don't know what it fixed. As for staying on the menus. I spent at most 5 minutes every 30minutes on the menus. So roughly 20-25 minutes of total menu time.

Run Kombuster or something similar to stress your GPU to the max and report back with temps. Just a tad under a GPU stress test will be what your card was running at at menus; its not SC2s fault if your card at 100% load isn't properly cooled. It doesn't overheat it like magic, just pushes it to 100%.

If you care to cap the FPS at menus, follow the directions here.

You might just want to reinstall your drivers and maybe update them some unless 9.12 runs best for you.
Easy fix to uninstall and reinstall your drivers though.

Other than that I dont know I play that game all the time and dont have that issue .

They might of patched it with the latest download. I remember running Fraps last week and on the menu I was at 600 or so fps. But then again, I have Everest running on my G15 so it lets me monitor my temps real time. But I didn't notice my fan changing speed so not sure. Just letting you know about my experience.

My temps had nothing to do with it. My temps were fine the whole time actually. but I'll try furmark since I already have it

When I ever I ran furmark I never had a problem so I don't see why sc2 would cause a problem furmark can't for about an hours run

After folding for a few hours not long ago I had the same issue. Switched my PC off, went to bed, got home from school the next day and forgot it even happened. Then my dad asked me what happened and I was like "OH YEAH! forgot about that."
