1. Is this case design air flow restrictive? Especially with the solid panels?

Answer: Yes, due to the case design, the case is more restrictive vs others of it's caliber on the market. It is similar to the Fractal Design R4 in many ways. Yes, this chassis will not see as good as temps stock vs say an Corsair line up such as the air 540 or a typical Cooler Master HAF series case, but each manufacturer had a different goal in mind. Here NZXT wanted to provide a nice balance between decent temps, sound proofing, sleek look and a modern internal design. There are ways around the temperature increase due to the design on different cost and skill levels.

- Purchasing Static Pressure (SP) fans on this case is the cheapest and easiest way to bring more fresh air or push more hot are out of the h440. Installing SP intake fans to replace the stock fans is the best choice to begin. Followed by replacing the top stock exhaust fans. Static Pressure fans are designed to get air volume in restricted applications where ventilation is minimal, such as the h440 front and top panels, as well as applications such as radiators for water-cooling. Fans that have a good SP rating, about 1.25+ are ideal along with at least 45+CFM to go with it. Below are SOME examples of great stock replacements for your h440, no matter if your on air or under water in your system. There are many others available at different price levels, these are most recommended.

- Corsair SP 120's, HP, QE, and PMW models are all acceptable depending on your build.

- Noctua NF-F12/ NF-P12, as well as S12B Redux Models for those who cringe at the Brown scheme. The industrial models are superior to both but have a huge noise increase. Basically any Noctua 120mm fan will do you great. I recommend the 1200rmp+ models for superior cooling.

- Modding Panels is the next, more advanced step into making the h440 overall case temperatures lower. It also gives you the ability to add your own flare and theme to your build. Below are some examples of panel mods already done by members in the thread, all have decreased the temperatures without a doubt but each at different levels, each based on the build they are cooling and the type of mod respectively. The average on the mods below are 10c+ on gpu's 8c+ on cpu temps. This is between a mixture of air cooled and water-cooled builds. Needless to say it's worth it, and depending on your build components you could see even more. The mod helps multiple gpu systems extremely well. At some point, I'll need to get a new case and this one is definitely on the radar. Like lots of folks i think, i gotta wonder about ventilation thru the top and front panels? The case allows for a copious number of huge fans in these locations, but the vents to the exterior are soooo constrained in comparison. I'm wondering how that works out in practice with overclocked components and SLI setups. I'm hoping to get a sense of that by keeping tabs on this thread, and also a sense of what mods or after market parts might shift the balance a little from what seems like an emphasis on silence to a greater emphasis on cooling. A side panel with a fan mount or different top/front panels with extra venting sort of things.

Anyway, look forward to seeing what folks do with this case and such. By all accounts, its got great features and high build quality and just looks fantastic.

If this helps any. I'm coming from a Cooler Master Storm Trooper and my temps are hardly any different with the same radiators I had in it if anything a little better, due to bottom being less restrictive on H630 and more rad options. Now, I have a hot 8350 Vishera and 2 7970's so I put out heat. Nothing a few rads cant handle that can fit in this case and even with stock corsair low rpm 140mm fans I have from an 800d on my 280 in push on the roof I still feel air escaping on the top vents, and feel it greatly coming in from the front rad. I don't think this case will have any difficulty cooling like people might presume but I will be sure to completely test when I can. Hope this helps and thanks for being the first post!

I'll put Ya on the list! sounds good love to see pictures. as far as the" fan controller" it is not one. many have been let to believe that..it is just a fan HUB. a place to plug on all your case fans to make it neat. they will all run 12v unless an individual fan has a voltage reducer on it like I do for my sp120's, I use the 7v reducer that came with the fan. the bottom 3 pin connector is the power lead. should have came stock with the front panel 3pin connected to it that's attached to the Molex plug. So don't drive yourself crazy trying to use it as a controller because it's just a hub!

What I haven't figured out is why this power cable also feeds the front I/O?

The molex plug is the main power coming from the front panel PCB which gets its power from the PSU. Off that they chained the 3pin for the fan hub to have less wires most likely, + one less thing to solder on the PCB

Oh and your now officially the second member!

The front I/O has a button that controls 2 LEDs that are used to light up the back of the case where the motherboard ports and PCI slots are located.

Kinda silly considering that there is plenty of 5 volts there from the USB & card-reader......

 

H630 owner here! Build not finished yet as i'm trying to figure out what fan setup i'm going to run still, and might order a side window panel.

I was thinking of having dual 200mm at the front, and having 200mm exhaust but the H100 doesn't allow for top fans..

All i did on this case was change the rear exhaust for a cougar fan i had, and put that fan to the front above the 200mm.

 

I have 3 x Gentle Typhoons in the front (AP-14 and 2 x AP-13) and an AP-14 in the back. I'll see if I can get some pictures, it's a pain to move it from under my desk...

Yeah that's why I put mine on top of desk lol. it's no problem. I would like to see how the typhoons pull air through the front though cause their nice sp fans to test vs af fans!

hmmm, ok. I think the orientation is good unless you wanted another 200 up front instead of the 140. only thing is you can get a higher positive air pressure if you put h100I to intake. slightly better cup temps probably and leave back exhaust. or leave h100i exhaust switch back to intake. it's all going to be very close temp wise Mabye something to experiment

 

Hey guys, though yall might want to know a super simple mod that makes the outside match your build a little better! Painting the small mesh grills on front panel and top panel. Here are some step by step guides to accomplish this look. I picked this paint because its what I had already and Its a dark red to match my ROG build, looks a lot less glossy and darker in real life. Looks very nice, provides an accent and a more aggressive look.

Step 1. Remove front panel and take out the mesh and dust filter, just slides out then pull the mesh tabs back.





Step 2. Remove top panel and locate the 5 screws holding the 2 separate mesh pieces in place.







Step 3. Find a clean and well ventilated area to spray the mesh and a cover for the over spray if needed. Space the mesh pieces out to prevent overlap. Apply a few light coats as evenly as possible about 15-20 min apart depending on weather and humidity. Keep the spray nozzle about 6-8in away from the mesh. Go off the sides of the mesh as your go back and forward don't stop the paint flow for best results. Let it cure for about 2 hours before handling to prevent smudges and tacky paint!





Step 4. Once dry, reinstall the 3 mesh pieces, remember for the front bend the mesh tab back over the filter. For the top, use the 5 screws. 2 for the small rear width piece and 3 for the long length piece. Now just sit back and enjoy!






There are different ways to use spray cans but this is the method I like, use whatever method you feel is best. For such small pieces that don't get hardly any wear and tear I didn't bother sanding down the stock black paint or apply any clear coat, didn't feel it was necessary. Well that's it 4 easy steps! Total time was about 45 minutes for painting, mostly waiting on in between coats, 2 hours dry time for a tack free surface and 2 minutes to put back on the panels! I hope you like my simple mod, I'd love to see what colors y'all come up with!
