AMD continues to kill it!

Today AMD lifts the embargo on Radeon RX 6800 series reviews and product sales. Learn more about the graphics cards before you buy them… or buy them and then read/watch the review

Yeah all sold out (if they even got any to begin with). At PC Case Gear in Australia too. Haven't checked any other Australian sites yet.

Frametimes for the 6000 series look really good! Far more consistent frames vs 3000 series, at least according to GN, though neither experience is bad. Rage mode and SMA looks largely worthless at this point, being within margin of error most of the time.

Of course, good luck getting a card. Across a myriad of sites, it was never in stock, even at AMD.com

All came in as OOS for the other E Retailers

Wonder if 10AM they're gonna make it a free for all.

Looking at more reviews, it appears that either there is a driver issue or the 256-bit memory bus is having an impact at 4K resolutions in some games. Faster or equal to a 3080 @ 1440p, suddenly becomes a 10-12% slower at 4K.

Yeah. Based on the reviews I've seen, I think I've changed my mind. I'm leaning nVidia IF they release a card @ or under $1k with more VRAM. DLSS support was added for my most played game, War Thunder. Especially considering my attempts to get a 6800 XT failed spectacularly, as it was never in stock for me and I've been searching/refreshing since 0400 this morning PST.

Basically, I want a card, @ or sub-$1k with more VRAM than my current 1080 ti. Who ever delivers first will most likely get my money, but I'm thinking I may stick with nVidia if the 3080 ti rumors are somewhat true.

Is it just me or does at even first glance the 6800 series look overpriced? So far I see it fits between 3070/3080 in performance, costs almost the same as a 3080, has tracing performance of 3070 at best and worse in Control. Efficient thanks to 7nm. Frametime consistency looks better in some titles, nice (thanks large cache, what else would that be). Performance per dollar the 3070 seems to be beating both 6800 and XT... And that's probably going to be the main gripe I think for many, why give up all the support NV has right now in software, tools, tools from NV etc. give up tracing performance, ... and go with an AMD card.

Will read more later, it seems they are as expected great cards but the price is not competitive at all. OC, a little.

The smaller node advantage finally shows up, sadly not so much in increased performance but in good/acceptable power consumption.

The cooler design, I mean performance, I don't care about design. 77C according to TPU? With a 200+W card? What on earth did they do to screw it up that much. My 2070 that runs 200-290W doesn't do 77C, ever, and it's a cheapo MSI model. But at least they run the triple fans slow? Maybe that's why the temps are so high. Yet it's supposedly more effective than a 3080 cooler? Odd, very odd that it runs the GPU so hot.

Can't find any new cards for sale, no AMD no NV cards available.

Still think that lower price would suit these cards better, 6800 at same cost as 3070 ($500) and 6800XT ($600) between 3070 and 3080, not pretty much tied with a 3080. Bring on the price war you cooperating duopoly.

Yep. I noticed all of the things you've mentioned. AMD overpriced these cards. Period. End of story. I'm no RT or DLSS cheerleader, but to ignore that all, along with better encoder performance, it starts to appear obvious.

I think I've changed my mind. I was going to get a 6800 XT. I failed of course, because it was never in stock anywhere I was logged into and ready to buy. If the 3080 ti rumors are roughly true, I think that's what I'll replace my 1080ti with.

So, for me in terms of specs AMD has the edge in the vram department. Nvidiia has DLSS out now. As a 4K gamer, I would get a 3080. I want every drop of performance. The 6900XT should be interesting.

Pretty good so far but I can feel a bit disappointed in the price. If it was closer to 3070 pricing, it would of slaughtered Nvidia but at $80 MSRP ($100 CAD) more, you can still make a compelling argument for that card. Especially if you consider ray tracing / DLSS.

However, in pure rasterization in DX12 games, its pulling 3080 levels at 4K!

However, in DX11 games, its on par or less than 3070.

I think in the long term, I hope we will see the 6800 pull away as DX12 continues to saturate so it sounds like the safer buy.

The biggest surprise is that the stock cooler is apparently quite good (according to GURU3D). Load is 62c in their tests. PHEW.

They're mentioning coil whine in the review but I am not sure if that is just their luck or it will be a more prevalent issues with these reference cards.

No stock in Canada (or GTA) online so I will wait. Maybe forever...

I will be curious to see what the difference between the 6800xt and 3080 is when we get modded bios and proper O/C software.

From what I'm reading so far, it looks like the 6800XT will definitely have an advantage with max OC vs max OC thanks in part to being on the superior node, but we will see.

Although true, I still see the memory bus holding it back long term. Much more so than the VRAM amount.

Amazing how some people just overlook the 256-bit bus, when it doesn't fit their narrative.

"close" isnt good enough.
They needed to be better than this
They dont have dlss and performance in raytracing is abysmal
They needed to be better at Rasterization

Also, the 6800xt someone performs worse using Vulcan. very odd

better luck next gen
I think you're being a touch harsh, though I understand the sentiment. This is a good launch for AMD. These are good cards. King of the Hill? Certainly not.

My inclination has swung back to nVidia, pending a 3080ti variant that has more VRAM than my 1080 ti.

Looked at my local Micro Center earlier today and again just now (minutes after opening) and they have no RX 6000 parts listed on their website unlike the 3080/3090 and Zen 3 launches. Seems they didn't get any. Not a good sign.

Friend got one. That being said i am getting tired of this game. Got to make decision by early 2021 when i expect to get my 5950x from b&h.

Now literally debating canceling build till 2021 based on alderlake/ryzen 6000. I got ps5/ryzen 4800h + rtx2060 laptop to hold me over. Got to figure what to keep and sell in that case.

Close is good enough and I'll tell you why. Competition! It benefits us. We already see Nvidia rushing to release a SAM equivalent. That is great! There will likely be pricing reductions once supply is sorted, again great for us!

Granted I think both camps are overpriced. RT is not there yet, but I'm glad to see it coming to light. Dlss 2.0 is great, but needs wider implementation. It will be interesting to see what AMD brings to compete with it and how widely implemented that will be.

Unsurprisingly I couldn't get one, they all sold out in a blink of the eye...I will wait for 6900XT release and try my luck again.

I just bought a Dell S2721DGF, so the 6000 series is looking pretty tasty for 1440p 165hz, plus I'm not interested in raytracing yet, I am the kind of guy that turns a lot of my settings down/off if they don't have much of a visual impact, for those extra frames.

Also will be interesting to see what a full cover waterblock and modded power play tables will do for a 6900XT, as well as an OC'ed 5600X, 4x8GB 3800cl14, and SAM enabled...should make a pretty formidable pure 1440p gaming machine.

I don't have any issue with what AMD is offering, performance, price, ecosystem are all ok to me. If I could buy one I would have. I feel the same about what Nvidia is offering, if I could have purchased a 3080 or 3070 I would have.

The only thing I have an issue with is releasing products before you have made enough of those products to last at least 5 minutes from launch. Leaders of their industry, but buying from AMD or Nvidia feels like sponsoring an Indegogo campaign.
