Why do so many people like the Bitfenix Prodigy?

I thought the whole point of an ITX case was to build a small but powerful system. The Prodigy measures 250 x 404 x 359mm, which makes it larger than most micro-ATX cases. The Silverstone TJ08-E, for example, measures 210mm x 374mm x 385mm.

In terms of volume, then, the TJ08-E is actually 17% smaller than the Prodigy. But the TJ08-E can fit an SLI setup and a micro-ATX board.

So here is my question. What's the point of an ITX case like the Prodigy if there are great micro-ATX cases that are smaller?

Prodigy is small. Unless you can use the handles for fitting water cooling, internal dimensions are 250 x 310 x 340, meaning less volume to work with. What space it takes up on a desk, probably isn't your smallest. Handles were made to carry the case around and the feet also serve as a shock absorber - not to fit another optical drive, front panel connector, and external 3.5".

I see your point, but the Prodigy has amazing levels of thermal performance. I think you can even put a 230mm (might only be 200, can't remember) fan in front. Don't you remember the days a few years ago when that was amazing for a full tower? It is more about size, OC cooling, and LAN portability. Not JUST size. I'd like a full ATX version of the Prodigy, even if it was massive. I really like the layout. I also really like cubes. I'm not sure if I like the cosmos handles more or these ones... But they're both awesome. So are the scout v1 and v2's and the c70's handles. Case handles are awesome.

I do miss being able to walk into PDXLAN with Scout in one hand, monitor in the other, and peripherals in my backpack. One trip to bring everything in.

Once you start down the watercooling path, that kind of becomes a thing of the past. That is, until this gorgeous little case was released.

Yeah personally I was very close to ordering the TJ08, but ended up going with the prodigy because it will support heavier duty water cooling.

Due to size they are both very portable, but in the end the prodigy is more so. The handles could even be removed if you care that much about how tall it looks on the desk....

You can remove every last vestige of old-school tech as well, no 3.5" or larger drives or bays even needed. I like the clean look offered by all 2.5" storage that can be mounted out of the way. We have USB 3.0 who needs an internal CD drive anymore?

Who needs SLI when single cards are as powerful as they are?

These + low cost + low weight. (If I need tri SLI I'll use my main rig at 75 pounds, but my mini rig soon to be in a prodigy is under 10 lbs. Not a big deal for most, but if you get nailed with back problems, that 75 pounds doesn't seem so appealing.)

i like the look of the case but
reviews on newegg make me not want it
also the power button, reset, mic/headphone, and two usb ports are on the side of the case that would have me reaching between my wall and the pc just to turn it on or plug in something to the side. never seen anyone use that side of the case for anything and just seems like a total pain for all 3 of the desks in my house.

that's a good point about the usb ports, perhaps I will try to mod my case to have them on the left side if/when I get the case for my next build.
