Hi Guys,

Why are the 6700K/6600K CPU's so expensive and so hard to find at the moment? Seriously, right now on Amazon, the only in stock sellers want $480+ for the 6700K and they keep selling out of them. A 5930K was recently $400 at Micro Center. What is the deal? Am I missing something? Benchmarks doesn't make it look leaps and bounds ahead of even Z97 platform...

There was a limited quantity initially and Intel had a bad yield on the chips which caused them to sell at a higher price point.

However, in recent weeks leading to the Holidays the Microcenters by me all showed 10+.. They were listed at $329.99 at that point. Then the closer it got to the Holidays I saw the price jack up again and poof all the chips were gone!

Chip is sitting at $379.99 and out of stock on their page.. Which is completely ridiculous and why I have refused to buy it..

After the initial rush for these chips were over I saw little reason to carry a price higher than the last gen since they honestly weren't that much better to justify the increase. Coupled with the high DDR4 price my plan is to wait it out..

supply and demand. not enough cpu's and to many buyers. The prices will come down. Alot of people for that reason have been just going with x99 setup. If you nedd something now, go 5820k based on price / performance ratio.

Thanks for the responses, it makes more sense now.

I am itching to upgrade my Crosshair V Formula-Z and FX-9590 and I wouldn't mind going with a Z97 platform/4790K CPU since it can be had for very reasonable price but I also wanna play with the big boys and just go X99 chipset and quad-channel DDR4.
