I never really noticed much of a difference.

I mean you can set 24 Bit within options, but what will that do? that would only work for 24 bit tracks and cd's.

Set your rate too 48KHZ? will that make a difference either? since most music is decoded at 44KHZ anyways, setting to 48KHz would make the music sound more horrible than good.

And what about the Noise Sharpener? do you really want your music to sound like its trebled straight from hell? when you can just set the X-fi Crystalizer to 100%.

And what other options? an equalizer? well you get one built into the X-FI and winamp, would foobar's equalizer make a difference?

Tell me the reasons why Foobar is so much better, and maybe ill switch to it.

I got an X-fi Gamer and Z5300E's.

If you have the time and really want to go for it, go for Foobar. Ive tried and failed, in terms of sound quality, Winamp will do me. In terms of program flexibility, foobar is the way to go, if you have the time, and patience to learn it.

The output quality is just more accurate. Plus the Noise Sharpening plugin for foobar is a thousand times better than ANY dsp effect in Winamp. Trust me, I've tried 'em all. I wish there was a better output plugin in Winamp though because I really like the ipod support.

Also foobar uses almost zero resources.

Foobar has less quality sound than programs such as winamp but is much more customizable.

Don't believe me? Go to the foobar site and email the creator. He admits himself that it has less quality than winamp.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the creator said there was no audible difference between Winamp and Foobar, but the Noise Sharpening makes all the difference. I think winamp is customizable myself.

Also there are only like 30 skins for foobar. I see the same 20-30 on every website. Winamp has hundreds and hundred of skins.

I'm actually not a fan of milkdrop. I liked original Geiss v4 though. It pissed me off when the new Geiss 2 was only 256 color though.

G-Force is also a good one, but it works best in WMP

Is there really that much of a difference between software audio players??

Foobar2000 uses alot less resources(CPU, Memory) then Winamp thats why I switched from Winamp.

Winamp does have alot more premade skins but 75 or more are just crap and for the old version.

I'm using WMP, but I still use Foobar2k occasionally.

I only got Foobar because it plays FLACs.

is it really hard to switch when there's already a guide on how to set it up?
try it yourself, and u don't have to uninstall your dearly beloved winamp too.
hear it for yourself, if by then u still don't like what u hear... just uninstall em... what's so hard about that?
it's not like we're trying to change OS....

and for God sake.... there are tons of skins for foobar....

why is it that ppl always go crazy about details

*note*
crystalizer has no use for me. (i've modded my x-fi already)
and noise sharpening do waaay better than crystalizer.

Oh the irony... Crystalizer on 100% is like 150% on fb2k. Did you consider lowering the sharpening just a little bit?
