hey guys, I got a strix z270i motherboard with two nvme slots so here is my benchmark for two 256gb 960 evo drives in RAID0

for anyone wanting to try, I used the beta 64bit Intel RST(e) AHCI/RAID Drivers v15.5.0.1047 for my raid setup. I had to disable the FASTSTARTUP option in win10 otherwise I wasn't able to shutdown my pc anymore . I tried some benchmarks, and I can safely say that RAID0 is definitely faster than one single nvme ssd and cheaper than buying a bigger equivalent size.

What a piece of s-h-i-t this is, first they removed the support for encryption in Magician 5.0 and last night I got a message about a new firmware being available (despite no one listed a the webpage) and after upgrading, my Samsung 960 Pro 2TB is now listed as unsupported and not genuine. Should I just return it and get a brand that cares about the customers?

Seems like the new firmware version was 2B6QCXP7, ie the same that is available for the EVO SSD. But you might want to wait a bit to upgrade as there seem to be some problems, maybe there will be an updated Magician released soon as well. Does Samsung offer release notes for their firmwares? Can't even find the 2B6QCXP7 for the Pro on Samsungs page.

I had upgraded my 960 Pro 512 Gb to 2B6Q two days ago... DO NOT DO IT! After upgrade, my speeds dramatically decreased... Don't know how to fix it. Samsung support too.
My new speeds...

Is there any method to revert the firmware?

I did it and after a reformat my scores were normal. My situation was complicated by the fact that I was cloning my 950 Pro over.

So after firmware update i need to format the drive? OMG( Don't wanna tune all my system once again...

Is it normal - speed problems - after firmware update? 960 Pro my first Samsung disk.

I don't know, and I'm not saying a reformat is needed. It's weird. I reformatted twice (for reasons not related to the drive), and each time the drive starts off with good perf, I fill it up, it goes to the gutter... then I fill more, and it goes back up. I don't really know why it did that. It's a mystery!

are you using the latest driver 2.2 dropped a few days ago

just got a 960 Evo. Is there any good reason to install the Samsung driver instead of just using the MS generic one?

Yeap. Installed the new driver (2.1 was before). By the way, where this driver at Device Manager? In list of drives Samsung SSD properties looks like this:

Or this is normal? Magician Software tells that Driver: "Samsung"

That's how it is for me.

Look at this section as per Samsung installation manual.

Right... in properties on device manager for 960 Pro it says Microsoft. Magician says Samsung. It's Samsung. Uninstall Samsung nvme driver is in uninstall part of control panel. And as you now added, it's under storage controllers.

Intel's RAID drivers are crippling your NVMe performance. Take a look at my SM951's in RAID 0 via Microsoft disk management.

How can I do a PSID reset of a Samsung 960 Pro? WinMagic SecureDoc seem to have broken down and is not working and Samsungs Magician seem to be anything but a magician, in fact it seems to be useless. 4.9.7 seemed to be the last version that actually did anything but I have not been able to get that to work with my Samsung 960 Pro? Not even when disabling driver signing in Windows 10. Just want to erase the damn thing back to normal and don't care about the data, thought that would be dead simple on a SED Device but guess not...

The PSID reset looks like you might need to dig around Samsung's site for a more advanced tool than Magician.

This person had an 840 and needed to do a PSID reset and found a Samsung utility:

https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/secure-erasing-840-evo-e-drive-can-it-be-done.2366848/

This tool linked below MAY work if the above-linked website's instructions prove unsuccessful; it was clearly tested on an 850 and found to work, so it should be good to go!

Thanks.

Well, have been trying different tools that "might" work for the last couple of hours but I have still not been able to find one that actually do. Can't believe that this can be so hard, if I ever get rid of this SED crap I will go with software encryption or just ditch Samsung altogether. Cant really say that SecureDoc has impressed either so far..

But someone must have tried this before us? Seems crazy that there seem to be no prefered way to do it.

How do I switch to microsoft raid ? this is my boot disk so I don't even know how I could do that? also how do you go beyond the max speed of DMI gen3's 4GB/s ?

thanks
