Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new gaming mouse and I would like to know if there are some objective test methodology to decide which mouse / sensor is the best.

Actually, I would like to know if the Corsair HARPOON RGB PRO with the sensor PMW3327 (max 12000 DPI) or the Corsair CORSAIR Gaming Sabre RGB with the sensor ADNS-S3988 (max 10000 DPI) are good gaming mouse.
Yes, the mouse must be a Corsair since I have a Corsair keyboard too and I would like to stay with this brand.
Unfortunately, I don’t like the M65 RGB ELITE which has a faster (and so better?) sensor. I play with max. 3500 DPI.

Online I just read subjective impressions about acceleration, jitter etc....

Thank you!

EDIT: I found this web site for a subjective test "https://mouseaccuracy.com/", maybe this practical way is the just the best way for to test a mouse…!?

Ignore the DPI figures, they say nothing about actual performance.

The best current sensor is the 3360 and its variants (3366, 3361, I am sure others here are more up to date).

Pick something that has a suitable shape and weight, reliable sensor and not too high click latency.

I generally don't like suggesting Corsair mice if you like playing MP FPS games. Between the Harpoon and Sabre, the Sabre is better.

What kinds of games do you play most often?
What is your current mouse? Do you know what kind of natural grip you have?

- everything is already tested. acceleration and jitter are not subjective, they are technical and objective.

- both mice are mediocre/below average (as all corsair devices).

- you will not see any difference between those sensors.

- high DPI is not advised, it would be better to use 800-1600 dpi and set your sensitivity in games according to your needs.

- sensor cannot be "faster"

Imo the best sensor for now is 3389 from Pixart. The mice which have this sensor are: Razer Deathadder Elite, Steel Series Rival 600 and 710 Dream Machines DM1 FPS in all 4 colours. I used all of them and for me the best were Razer Deathadder and DM1 FPS. Maybe its more the grip that matters for me though I am just used to this high DPI's.

Thank you very much for the replies, guys… I really appreciate that!

I have a Corsair VENGEANCE M95 since 2013 which I want to replace.

I bought for testing the Logitech G Pro and the Logitech G703. Both mice have the same sensor and are for me on another level compared to the M95… they are really, really good for me! Between both I think I like more the G Pro because it is lighter and somehow more comfortable… I’m not sure about that.

I read online that the G Pro is at today the best gaming mouse… what do you think about that? Do you know a better mouse – I mean a mouse with a better sensor…? What do you think about a StellSeries flagship mouse?

High DPI - Low sensitivity. Is that I do. Many people has laughed for me doing this way. But it made smoother response. It depens also the resolution but something like 8K DPI for the 1440P is fine when you lower sensitivity.

Some sensors have absurdly high smoothing at such values of DPI. It's not exactly good advice to set any mouse to 8K DPI, and not just because of how uncomfortable Windows mouse movement would be.

response is smoothed, there you are right :D

just WHY would you put higher DPI AND THEN lower sensitivity? it makes no sense.

the most precise movements that you possibly can get would be with DPI below 1600.

you prioritize things that are totally not important.

g pro sensor is good enough to completely disregard it as a selection criteria.

SS mice are **** these days

Update:

I tried EVERY Corsair mouse and I just don’t like the shape because always in some way (too) uncomfortable.

Between the G Pro and the G703 I like much more the G Pro because it is lighter, it is symmetrical and the back side is smaller so that can move the mouse faster and with more comfort.

I ordered some mice of StellSeries to compare with the G Pro. If I don’t like them I will stay with the G Pro – which anyway I found to be overall really, really good!

if you like symmetrical mice, look into DM1 FPS, model 0\0-, XM1 (absolutely amazing mouse). all of them are much better than anything that SS has to offer.

Unless you have a test rig, high speed camera etc. you won't be able to objectively test mice.

Miiksu: Yes that's best, high hardware sens. low software sens. but the problem here is when does the hardware have the cleanest output and minimal lag (= minimal smoothing), so most people stay at 1600 max due to that. Personally I use 800 CPI for most things with 400 for racing and as an alt. sens for precision work. I can play with 1600 CPI but then for example in inventory (2D) the mouse is way too fast compared to how fast it moves in FPS (3D), so 800 works best for me without the mouse flying around mad while clicking inventory items. In Windows 1:1 I could get used to 1600 but why, at higher I would definitely start going into integer reduction speeds on Windows.

The 3360+ sensors are OK I would say. Always depends on implementation. Hero... maybe, mercury? maybe not. 3090, 3310, or older hard pass.

3389 is probably fine. 3988 was snappy fast too. Maybe these are related in design.

Always depends on implementation.

There are many new mice in last couple years and 3360 etc. good sensor are in many mice, good and bad mice, expensive and cheap.

You should into any mice brand, not get stuck with one brand. Brand doesn't matter one bit.
Logitech has decent mice in recent years but they switched to mercury and hero sensor for lower power consumption, cheaper sensor, but prices doubled... Logitech milking the hype of their mice.
There are some IE3.0 from M$ with a decent sensor now I think.
Those DM, Model O, maybe Endgame and more, you can find some here: https://www.maxgaming.com/mice-accessories/gaming-mice

Otherwise only fringe/small shops sell these less common small brands mice or you have to buy directly.

Plus shape is what matters #1, then sensor and brand doesn't matter at all. So choose a shape first.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!

So yes, I’m looking for a high-eng gaming mouse which is symmetrical.

Is the Endgame Gear XM1 such a mouse or is there something better? From the shape I would say that this mouse is a good candidate!

I like the new Razer Viper too… what is your opinion about it? It should have also the same sensor of the XM1.

EDIT: Here is my answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/MouseRevie.../r/MouseReview/comments/co5sac/razer_viper_or_endgame_xm1_which_should_you_get/

The dimensions of the Razer are very similar to the dimensions of the Logitech G Pro which I found to be very good. The XM1 is overall a bit smaller. I will try both and then decide.

If we were very well made robots yes higher hardware sens is better but, since we are not, extra cpi can lead into overshooting that's why you me and many more are not using 1600.

all of the listed mice are good. there no mouse that is "better" then the rest, it does not work like this.

XM1 is wider in the middle than G pro, not smaller https://i.imgur.com/cT2es9g.png

Update 2

I received the:

- Razer Viper
- SteelSeries Rival 310
- SteelSeries Sensei 310
- SteelSeries Rival 600 (I received it defect, it doesn’t work -.-)
(I ordered the XM1)

So, I though that the Logitech G Pro would be my end game but I was wrong: The Razer Viper is at the moment for me the better mouse compared to the others since it has the better grip/feeling, mouse feet (really smooth!) and click responsiveness – yes, you read it wright: "better click responsiveness"; it is noticeably faster than the others mice when I "click". My neighbour noticed that too. I first though that it was not possible, then I searched for it and I read that actually the Viper has the new Razer's optical keys which are actually faster than others keys. 2nd Place gets to the SteelSeries Sensei 310 – which, by the way, has a better click responsiveness compared to the G Pro. My neighbour also loves the Viper which he will buy too…
I have now just to compare the Viper with the XM1.

you better avoid this kind of subjective bs. none of those mice is "noticeably faster" than the others.

https://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime if you have 15ms+ consistent difference between mice in this benchmark, then it will be somewhat noticeable. if you have 30+ then it is noticeably faster.

I use hardware sensitivty. It works any computer. Not touched OS settings.

Why not? Works best for my hand. You should try it couple hours and see if it works for u?

you should use in-game sensitivity, not OS or hardware.

it does not "work best" for your hand.

if we take 2 cases:
1) DPI 800, windows sensitivity 6/11, in-game sensitivity 10
2) DPI 8000, windows sensitivity 6/11, in-game sensitivity 1

both will have the same movement speed of your cursor in game, but 1st option will be MORE PRECISE. it is not a matter of opinion or experience, it is a technical fact.
