I was thinking that the Qosmio from Toshiba was looking pretty nice. Just the stock, low-end version was a really really nice compy. ^_^

I work at Best Buy.... The ASUS G72 is a decent gaming laptop, especially for the $999 price tag. The only qualm I have about it is the processor. All of ASUS' other intermediate laptops have moved to the iX series processors while the gaming laptops still have the Core 2's. I really wish ASUS would send us their new lines with an i5 in there!

I like the Toshiba as well but you're just over $1000.

gaming on an 11 inch screen isnt really gaming, the m11x might be nice, but other than web browsing and some word processing, i dont do much on my netbook.

I see the M11x as an ideal fit for someone that already has a decent gaming rig but wants play on the go as well. I don't know about you guys, but hauling a 17-20in screen around sucks a**.

Yep... I have a FX-7805u, which is relegated as a HTPC for right now. Need to sell it.

It was okay for a while, but lugging that thing around was a pain. I now have a laptop that my job issued me (a very nice HP 15.4") so I'm definitely not carrying both. I have a Lenovo S10 I keep with me though, and that does the job.

If I can get a decent price for the FX-7805u, I may sell the Lenovo as well and get an M11x.

yea, thats why i was gonna buy a 15.4in screen if i didnt get my netbook.

maybe a 13" wouldnt be bad

whats the battery life on the M11x? the GPU kill the battery? my 3 cell lasts 3hrs in my HP mini.

Those models are from before the i5 series processors came out. I think BB is getting the new Asus with an i7 and HD5870 in it. Also, for the money, the core2duo is fine with gaming. My recommendation if you don't want that large a screen is the next step down for $899, I know it will play Crysis on all Enthusiast settings no AA or AF. I can't be certain it won't do them, but i didn't enable it at work when the game was on one of the displays.

I know they are from before the i5 release. I just wish they would have refreshed the G series at the same time as the rest of their lines.

On another note....

Again, for the money, the ASUS is going to be your best bet. Ive gone ahead and linked the Best Buy listing for the computer.

Best Buy ASUS G72 Gaming Laptop

There are very few, if any other, manufacturers that will put a GTX 260m in a $1000 laptop. Consider the lighted keyboard, high clocked processor, 8 cell battery (still get 1 1/2 hrs), and a great display and you really can't go any other way. The best option and the only option is the ASUS G72

I had that ASUS and really liked it.

I also have that G72 from BB, just picked it up actually after debating over this question for quite some time. It is an outstanding machine, I love it (and I've had numerous high powered desktops). The only issue I've had is an odd one where steam and the creative software don't get along and cause the computer to lock up. Some have experienced this, some haven't. Simply uninstalling that creative software fixes the issue and you don't lose anything at all.

It DOES come with a lot of Bloatware from ASUS, but reinstalling off the provided cd puts a nice clean w7 copy on

You can also check out the G60 from Best Buy for $100 less.. but it has a smaller screen, smaller hdd(but 7200rpms vs 5400... you won't really notice it at all though), and 2gb less ram. For $100, I felt it was worth the ram, screen, and extra hdd capacity.

The ASUS laptops also OC very well with the included software. These G72's are hitting mid to high 11,000 3dmark06 scores, where as the new G73 (i7, 5870m, 8gb ram) score in the mid 12,000 3dm06.

They are a great buy, and the only thing in the price range that competes. I play MW2 with everything cranked at 1920x1200 (external 28" screen) and it runs absolutely perfect.

Good luck!

My choice.

Extremely weak GPU. Avoid dat mayne.
A GT240 would be about as nice as the M11x's GT335 GPU.

I'd go for this Core i7 and GT 240m laptop. Exactly $999.

The Nehalem laptops are much better than the dual-cores anyway. Don't forget they all TurboBoost to about 2.4-3.2GHz.
