dual m.2 ssd not working?

hello everyone,
I just bought a crucial mx500 m.2 sata ssd which I doesn't get recognized by my system. Is anyone familiar with that issue and can help me out?

My system:

- Asrock Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming
- AMD Ryzen 1700x
- 2x 8GB Ram
- Single GPU 1080ti
- Samsung 1tb m.2 NVME ssd in Slot M2_1 (PCIE1)

- and in addition the new one... > crucial mx500 1tb m.2 SATA ssd in Slot M2_2 (PCIE4)

The manual states that "If M2_1 is occupied, PCIE4 will be disabled".
Can't I just re-enable PCIE4 somehow and use the NVME in slot M2_1 at slower speeds?
Else I don't get the reason for two M.2 slots being there in the first place if you can just use one at the time anyway.

Hopefully someone can shed some light into it.
Thank you very much in advance!

greetings

Deos not get recognized in what the BIOS or the OS?

What's happening is not a problem.

It's merely telling you that if there's an SSD device already using your first M2 slot, the BIOS is going to enable your second M2 slot by turning off one of the 4-bit graphics card slot or 3-bit or 1-bit (short) PCIE slots. This should be of no concern unless you have other memory, a wifi stick or GPU in the physical slot named "PCIE4". Your manual should show a diagram of which physical slot PCIE4 is. This is a feature, not a bug, that allows you more configuration choices. This should not be a problem unless you have a wifi card in the PCIE slot identified in your manual as PCIE4.

Another note: Your new new drive is a sata SSD which means the sata controller will need to give the m2 a sata address. This mean that it may need to turn off one of the standard sata ports. Be sure you leave the corresponding standard sata port unused.

If you can't see the drive, you need to use the administrative disk tools in Windows to format the drive. Many folks say you don't need to do this, but sometimes you just do. It needs to be a real format, not a quick format. Again, sometimes you just have to do this for Windows to see it despite this being reportedly unnecessary. Set the partition as active. When you reboot, the BIOS and Windows should see the drive.

Neither the BIOS nor the OS (windows and linux) recognize the crucial m.2 sata ssd.
And I would totally be cool with it, if some other sata ports get disabled in return or something, but nothing alike happens.

And as I said, the manual itself says that the mainboard disables the PCIE4 port if the PCIE1 port is occupied.

In the PCIE1 port is already the Samsung NVME m.2 inserted which then disables the PCIE4 port which is the second m.2 mounting slot on my board which I want to use for the crucial m.2 ssd.
And on the crucial m.2 is an orange light constantly shining which I think might be a sign of an issue.

So the question is still up, I think ... Can I somehow re-enable the PCIE4 slot if the occupancy of PCIE1 slot disables the PCI4 slot?

It is almost exactly as I said, except your motherboard does not support SATA on your M2_2 slot.

You will need to install your new SATA M2 drive in the M2_1 slot which supports SATA. When you do this, you will lose normal access to SATA Port 1.
When you install your original Samsung NVMe drive into the M2_2 slot, it will run the Samsung NVMe drive in PCIE 3.0 x4 mode and you will further lose SATA ports 5 and 6.

M2_2 doesn't support SATA drives. Simple as that. Only M2_1 supports SATA drives.

Switch the Samsung and Crucial drives, and they both will work.
