Frustrated by lack of 1920 X 1200 monitors. How is 2048 X 1152?

I'm looking to upgrade my display and wanted a 27" w/ 1920 X 1200 resolution, but 16:10 monitors are hard to find at a reasonable price. So...

16:9 it is.

Should I go 1920 X 1080 or 2048 X 1152 for resolution?

My priorities are 1. Work (by far) 2. Movies 3. Games, in that order. For work I need as much screen real estate as possible to compare 8-16 documents/images side by side with readable text.

How are HD movies at 2048 X 1152? Does the weird resolution make them blurry?

What about games at 2048 X 1152? Are there any problems, besides the obvious need for a stronger graphics card than I have?

I'm looking at a Dell SP2309W 23". Buying 2 of these would be a better choice than a single 27" @ 1080P, correct?

The small upscaling from 1080p to 1152p could make the video blurry (unless you configure the video to play without zoom). I'd rather go 1080p or 1920x1200 unless movies wasn't a priority.

Yes, if 2048 X 1152 is unreasonable I'd settle for 1920 X 1080. I'm still not happy about the lack of 16:10 monitors, but I have no choice.

Will 1080P give me less issues overall than 2048 X 1152?

Size won't change the screen real estate, that's only resolution.

OP, the small upscale in movies you won't even notice, unless your using an absolute garbage player/codec set, and probably not even then. And since work is most important, more res is always better. And 2 screens is almost always > 1. So my vote is buy the dual dells.

I have a 23-inch Samsung 2048x1152 monitor. I also watch a lot of 1080p videos, and I think it looks fine, but that's just me. You can say it lacks height but I don't think it's that noticeable. I went from a 1680x1050 display and it didn't really feel much taller but it felt a lot wider.

Running Blu Rays and games at the more native resolution of 1920x1080 will give you smoother images, and better overall quality. Probably not worth the marginal increase in real estate. The only next step I would take is 2560x1600, and that would be PC games only (I would still keep 1080p for Blue Rays) and only with a VERY powerful card.

I have a 2048x1152 montior my self, I dont have any game issues with it trying to use it. OF course there are games you may have to edit a ini or make a short cut to do the res. But I only had to do that for one game.

Pretty much any other ones I tried picked up the res.

I would suggest the Samsung 2343 BMX-1 if you can find it , if your in the usa its $199 at microcenter. Its Colors is great black levels is very good as well.

I do watch blue ray movies/HD dvd movies with my montiors as well no issues with them either. They dont look blurry on my montior either, But Then I dont use upscaling options in Total Media Theater 3.

I had the same issue when I was looking for a new LCD. Lots of 1920x1080 panels but not so many 1920x1200. I ended up settling for the T260HD, its a really nice monitor and only cost me just over $300. Something you might want to look into.

Why? If that's not too inflated, then it's quite good. Unless your are reffering to the super inflated xxxxxxx:1 specs...

I'm running a Samsung 2494SW & Samsung P2250, have found that it works great for all that you have mentioned.

Probably a bit smaller then what you wanted to go with, but I use the 24" as my main screen then the 21.5" as my secondary screen. Can't go back to single monitors after dual - I don't care how big that single monitor may be.

The SP2309W is amazing. The screen is glossy anti-glare makes colors look more vibrant. compared to my old monitor its night and day.

Its 2048 x 1152. Games look great.

I think its roughly 15% larger than 1080p.

I play all games at 1152p just fine.

No it doesnt look blurry at all. but obviously if you viewing a 1080p source there is a slight upscale. and 1152p theres no black bars etc.

SP2309W got on the top 5 lcd monitors for 2009 on cnet.

i think dell was having a 30% sale on this monitor(and several others) 2 days ago not sure if its still up though. it like $210 opposed to the reg $300 or something.

Here is the product link http://accessories.dell.com/sna/prod...1&sku=320-7641

I swear coolest monitor ever bro.

80,000 dynamic contrast ratio marketing hype >.>

Horrible, 1080p stretched to 32inch is just bad, its only good if you sit 10m away.

For me it's about pixel count, rule of thumb,

1. Calculate diagonal resolution in pixels using the Pythagorean theorem:

Image

2. Calculate PPI:

Image

where
dp - is diagonal resolution in pixels,
wp - is width resolution in pixels,
hp - is height resolution in pixels and
di - is diagonal size in inches. (This is the number advertised as the size of the display.)

so the higher the pixel density the clearer and sharper the image is,

its all well and good having a MASSIVE monitor, but a 50' tv with 1920x1080 is not as clear as 23" 1920x1080 monitor,

i always presumed they the native res work the best, so 24' native is 1920x1200 , 30' native is 2600x1600, ect...

so the 27' would sit nicely in-between at the given res,

I have only owned dell monitors and i can say they are very good. I do like the look of those 27' ones but i'd rather go for the 30" (personal Preference)

hope this helps too
