Bulldozer/ Piledriver wasn’t bad if you didn’t mind a 200 watt OC to game at 60 fps. It was a drop-in replacement for my Phenom II. It was an improvement even with the worse IPC.

It’s sort of embarrassing how Bulldozer got green-lit in the first place… but here we are.

Athlon XP 2200+

It holds a special place in my heart. First build after being on my own and out of school. I abused the hell out that thing and it just kept going and going. Most of my computers before that had been ones my parents purchased and then I messed with. This was my first ground up part by part build. I was 19 or 20, I think. Man, I feel old now.

But I mean bulldozer was a nice lesson for everyone, specially AMD.
The wasted potential of that line also.
Had a FX-83xx (dont remember if it was a 70 or 50 chip) on a ASRock 990FX Extreme 9 as a back up to my 3770K/4790K machine.

2600k probably. Went hard for like 7 years.

I always thought AMD should have done a die shrink on the Phenom II chip added some new instruction sets and prolonged its life. Lord knows we could have done without bulldozer! lol
truth. i had a 8350 at 5ghz and my w3520 at 4.4 kept up with it just fine. Phenom 2 die shrink wouldve been super interesting.

Bulldozer, Excavator and Piledriver are examples of not sucess and the regression when comparinsg to Stars ( Phenom II ). I hope that AMD never do that again.

My 4790k was an upgrade "to keep my MB alive" that lasted me almost 4 years and at least 3 video cards. It was a work horse and east to OC to all core 4.8 on air or AIO. It was 100% stable and served me very well! I still have it as a backup PC and could switch to it and still be playable for 90% of what I do!

Aboslutely. I know it's not quite that simple, as trace layouts, spacing etc are optimised for a particular process, but Bulldozer was such a mess at the consumer end... and not much better for HPC.

I am going to go with any X58 S1366 CPU.
In my opinion, one of the best CPU offerings ever. It is over 10 years old but still relevant. Power to price was great. You can strap a GTX1080 or RTX 2070 to one and still play today's games at high rez.
Longevity prevails here.

Assuming you can get 6 to 10 GHz out of a CPU bit Intel with the Pentium 4 and it bit AMD with Bulldozer. I think both companies won't make that mistake again. "We made this 10 transistor CPU, but it goes at 65165161651 GHz."

Still have an i7-3930k going strong in my backup rig......x58 was good for sure

LOL. That is what I was running in my last rig and still have it. It replaced my i7-930 X58 system in 2011/2012. 3930K on a RIVF with Corsair Dom. Plat. DDR2400. Weak IMC on my 3030K though. Was only ever able to get 2300mhz tops out of it, 2240mhz rock solid stable. Agreed, another great CPU. What a BRUTE! Even today for encoding. Got an RTX 2070 Super in it and it is smashing games at 1440. Presently running an i9-10850K, 16GB TridentZ Royal 4000, Strix Gaming-A, and RTX 3070. Wanted to stay on that platform, but the new Intel quad channel CPUs are ******edly priced. Didnt even need to look at quad channel memory prices. Or the ridiculous mobo prices. Settled for S1200 and dual channel.
