The days when you could just buy a game safe in the knowledge that you were getting all of that game are long gone. Now big games are routinely carved up into increasingly Byzantine packages of pre-order bonuses and day one DLC. In which spirit Ubisoft has released details of the Far Cry 4 season pass, which will include an exclusive launch-day mission, a new PvP multiplayer mode, five missions with Hurk, and maybe even a Yeti or two.

The season pass will go for $30 and include the following:

The Syringe - Available from launch exclusively for Season Pass holders, players must keep a rare and potent recipe from falling into the hands of Pagan Min's forces. Playable in single-player and co-op, players will need to ensure that he does not use its devastating effects on the rebel forces.
Escape from Durgesh Prison - Ajay and Hurk have been rounded up and tortured in Yuma's prison. Team up with a friend to escape and survive the hostile lands of Pagan Min's Kyrat.
Hurk Deluxe Pack - Five missions, playable in single-player and co-op, including Yak Farm, Blood Ruby and Hurk's Redemption are available. Access an arsenal of new weapons including a harpoon gun for Hurk.
Overrun - Team up as Rakshasa or Golden Path in this PvP mode and control a series of neutral locations across Kyrat's countryside to protect them from being overrun by your opponents.
Valley of the Yetis - Ajay's helicopter has crashed on an unforgiving Himalayan ridge. Explore the frozen landscape and find tools to upgrade your camp and protect it from a dangerous cult when night falls. With single-player and co-op options, players will not be alone, but in the darkest caves players will have more to fear than just the cult as the yetis await their prey…

It looks to be a fair chunk of content, but it's a fair chunk of change for an up-front DLC purchase, too-even at a 20 percent discount off the combined, separate purchase prices. The game and the pass are also available in an all-in-one Far Cry Gold Edition, but at $90 there's no further discount for getting it that way.

Far Cry 4 comes out on November 18.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the use of DLC's anymore? I mean, games are getting expensive man...

  1. Make graphics a main selling point.
  2. Developing games becomes increasingly expensive due to high graphical expectations.
  3. Have to find creative ways to squeeze customers to offset development cost.
  4. This will surely end well for my company.
Can't wait for the great video games crash of 2015.

It's easily come to point where a game costs $100 now. Also something like farcry where the community online will be gone after a few months its very difficult to justify $100. Oh well, it's not like we dint cry about this when the intial DLC stuff started.

Have to leave it to Ubi to take out the coolest prey/predator in the main game, but place it in the dlc.

I'm with you. The Gold Edition will be on sale soon enough.

Well I won't be buying this because I refuse to be lured into the world of DLC. I have yet to buy a DLC package for a game of my own. I miss the old days of expansion packs that actually brought an abundance of new content and were even new games at times just utilizing the same engine.

After this though I also have a good mind to hold out on the game until a sale just to spite them.

I miss the days when an expansion pack was an afterthought, not something planned before they even released the game.

Yeah! But atleast they also had the courtesy to provide a good amount of content on the same engine. Like the Age of Empires expansions for 1 and 2, they were awesome.

Can't deny that these practices leave a bad taste in the mouth, but we also have to consider that the concept of 'season pass' does imply that these will be items released after the initial launch. Which means some people are going to be spending day after day post launch making us yetis. They always offer the season pass as a value alternative to buying DLCs individually. I'm not going to try and say the bad outweighs the good, but for people who really love Far Cry, this juicy tidbit of info may just inspire them to consider that season pass down the line. I'm still going to pre-order, cant imagine wasting one more day before I get my hands on this destined to be masterpiece.

Announcing it before the game is released a huge, huge no though as it gives the consumer the impression that it's ME3 day 1 DLC all over again (cut content to make DLC rather than plans to make DLC, I think their pr needs to come up with a better way of communicating this).

I've never really hated DLC much, since even without it, the games are usually pretty complete (haven't played one yet that really felt it NEEDED the dlc).

That being said, though, am I the only one disappointed with how Far Cry 4 looks? I was watching gamescom footage of upcoming games recently, and the list of PHENOMENAL-looking games is huge. Hellraid, Dying Light, Dead Island 2, and quite a few console games look fantastic.

Far Cry 4, though, just looked like a slightly re-skinned version of FC3. I hate using this phrase, but it really did look like an FC3 expansion pack.

lol and ubisoft wonders why people hate them and avoid them like the plague these day1 dlc that are already included with the base game should be against the law seems like thats breaking some law.
