Thermalright Ultra-120 or Coolmaster Hyper 212 Evo?

I just built a new computer and purchased the Coolmaster Hyper 212 Evo. I do very slight overclocking, nothing that would require h20, just simple air cooling works fine. My previous rig from 2 generations ago I purchased the Thermaltake Ultra-120 Extreme and love that thing! It's heavy and very efficient. I was wondering if I should continue to use that on my new i5-3570k or just stick with the Hyper 212 Evo? The Coolmaster is so much lighter and the design is pretty close to the same. Thoughts on if I should stick with the Hyper 212 which I currently have on my rig or switch over to my old school thermalright ultra-120 extreme?

Rig setup
i5-3570k
asrock z77 extreme 4
16gb corsair ram
gtx 660ti
corsair ax850

heatsink
coolmaster hyper 212 evo
or
thermalright ultra-120 extreme

Either would run two 120mm fans.

Thanks for your feedback!

i didn't really switch, i just bought a new computer and needed a cooler for it. I'll either swap my ultra 120 to my new system or keep it on my old system.

After 3hrs of playing battlefield 3 my temps per core-temp were as followed:

Minimum per core
32, 31, 33, 31

Maximum per core
59, 59, 56, 56

How are those temps for an i5-3570k with 3hrs of Battlefield 3 under load? Will I see a big improvement with the ultra 120 on this proc?

those temps are low for a 3570k, OC that bad boy!

I vote keep what you got. You might get a couple of degrees with the Ultra 120, but not too much. IB has a certain threshold and past that OC your temps will skyrocket.

Ultra 120 should be 3-4c better than 212 and quieter. 6 pipes trump 4

i would probably change to the Thermalright Ultra-120 if you want to try for 4.5GHz on IB. tho try your desired OC with the EVO and if temps are fine then just use it

Except one of the product in question is discontinued at newegg(Ultra 120) and another is have a 5 egg review(800+ and growing) and selling great(Evo), the market certainly don't agree with you.

the ultra 120 was EOL and getting replaced by the Venomous-X
the market just like the 212 because of its rave reviews and its cheap price,

slap a delta onto the ultra 120 and 212, then do an extreme OC and OV benching on a high TDP procie, then you'll know what you get

realizing this the thermalright have recently released their macho and spirit version, which IMO reduced their build quality (might be some loss in performance too) to be competitive in price terms.
if this keep going then we'll lose top performing cooler just like we've lost abit/dfi to some crap good lookin' stuff and cheap stuff (which now become more and more expensive)

there are PLENTY of HSF that are discontinued at newegg that are FAR superior to the 212... the reason for the rave reviews are because people like US recommending it due to it's low price and acceptable performance. it has rave review because of its pricing point for it's performance NOT because it out performs BETTER HSF's....

also being that its discontinued on newegg does not mean you cant buy it on 10 other sites.

go to thermalright.com and click on 'where to buy' that will lead you to all the authorized sites you can buy from with frozenGPU being the more popular one among OCN users i believe.

dont base your decision on newegg ratings IMO use them to research but dont say 'im buying this because it has 5eggs and 800+ reviews' because like mentioned above anything that is a bargain will have a higher rating than something that is much more expensive

there are probably 50-100 heatsinks that are better than the 212. the 212 just has a good price/performance ratio while being super cheap.

OK, getting Blue PH-TC14PE for my all Blue case mod instead of toying with Blue LED fans for 212.

Marketing determines sales far more than performance and quality.

Too many of the "reviews" are just so much hog wash. Reason? if reviewer pans product they won't get any more of that manufacturer's product to review.
