Is this drive the genuine article?

Here's mine—word of advice. I had a hard time getting this drive to work out of the box. It was getting recognized in bios but wouldn't show up in drive management. I kept getting BSOD after BSOD. After going through what felt like 10 different fixes, I ended up having to reinstall windows again on my primary drive for it to work.

Hmm. Was looking at grabbing a couple of these drives at Micro Center. Are they really that hard to get working?

One is made in China, and the other in Malaysia. Any significance?
It's hard to tell. WD may have factories in both locations. Do you have the drive in hand? Is there any reason for you to believe the drive you posted isn't genuine? Are you having issues getting it to work?

You do have to register it first.

Honestly, my copy seems to be the odd one because every reviewer has a made in china sample. XD

Careful at MicroCenter, they do not sell the exact ones in reviews, Check the model number you are looking for with the Micro Center Mfr Part #:

I'd avoid that one off eBay

Really? Ok, will keep that in mind.

Actually, there are two different models - one with a heatsink and one without. But the $70 price difference is obvious and MC doesn't sell that one.

I went up to my local MC looking for the 1TB SN850 model, WDS100T1X0E, because that's what was advertised on their web page. Walked out of the store and had a different model in my hand and even though it was a 1TB SN850 the model number was WDBAPY0010BNC.

Did it come with anything extra? Or have any extra features?
