Your Experience from going 23" -> 27" or 27" -> 23" (1080p)

Wouldn't a 23" vs a 27" give you the exact same screen space as long as they were both 1080p? Things would just be smaller on the 23".

yeah... but we are comparing 'experiences' and not desktop space or resolution...
As the monitor gets bigger, the pixel density decreases and at 1080p, is it really good for gaming?

im torn..very 50/50 on this based on all the feedback...ill just have to see it for myself....Microcenter needs to restock!!

The only reason why I swapped to 27'' was because it was 3D.
Other than that, 23'' is plenty enough for all your need.

27'' is just bigger.

Does the 23'' does the job ?
Yes.
Does the 27'' does the job ?
Yes.

It's only depending on your money, if you feel like you would like bigger and can afford it, I recommand it.
27'' is not too big, it's the maximum I'd buy for a monitor (I used my 32'' tv as monitor and I can say it's too big).

I started with a 32in 720P TV as my monitor and I switched to a 27in Asus 1080P monitor and it was absolutely an amazing change! It is perfectly clear and looks fantastic for gaming and editing photos. I couldn't be happier with it! Now I want 2 more for surround!

I have a 24'' and I use it for my computer and my ps3. I had to get a dongle thingy for the hdmi to dvi so I'd look into getting a monitor that has both connections if at all possible.

I realize that, it's just some people were saying they liked 27" better because "more stuff fits on the screen". That would only be true if you were increasing your resolution.

27 inch at 1080p is way too big. 27 inch at 1440p is sexy. If you're playing highly competitive games, you might want to get the smaller monitor. 23-24 inch is the sweet spot imo.

/shameless bump to get any other opinions/experiences.

Update: went to mc today..they said they would charge me a 15% restocking fee if i bought the samsung 950D 27" and returned it...so i couldn't do a side by side comparison vs my current 23" 750D... =(

27" is big for 1080p...but 950/750D are exceptionally sharp monitors...imho.

if anyone has seen them side by side.. + rep. if i decide to go with 27" i'll have to sell my other monitor/s.

I also own a 24" IPS....so there is also a question of which monitors to keep..

23" 120hz + 24 IPS (what i have now)
27" 120hz... sell the others (possible)
27" 120hz + 24" IPS (likely, perhaps too big for dual screens?)
27" 120hz + 23" 120hz (unlikely, perhaps too big for dual screens?)

i've never experienced a 27", however, when it comes to gaming i can definitely tell a difference between a 23" and a 24" in terms of texture quality and resolution. that said, i like my 23" way better.

I went from a 23" to a 30". I'll NEVER go back now. This 30" is just simply amazing, I can see SOOO much better now. Cockpit view in racing games doesn't bother me anymore. I can snipe with a pistol easily in some games. I do have relatively poor eyesight honestly, but with my glasses I'm near 20/20. I honestly feel that the extra size on this 30" really makes things a lot more immersive. I can't wait for my eyefinity setup to be complete.

^ is your 30" 1080p?? thats the real question...if it is...no way in hell I could do that. 27" would be my max. limit for 1080p.

if your going to get a 27' don't get it in 1080p it will look bad, and pixels will look stupid. i added a 28" 1920x1200 to my setup last year, and every time i try to not bring it with my on a lan party or something, i can't stand the size of my 25" it just seems sooo much smaller.

I had plenty of monitors over the years. My 32"1080p LG ips which was a tv. Bit too big. I then went to a i-inc was the brand i think 27" 1080p That was nice and clear. Then went to a 26" Vizio, Then to a 27" Samsung then to 25" Asus. All in 1080p resolution. So far i love the 25" Its the perfect size and my desk isnt super long so i sit about a feet 1/2 away from the screen.

A 24-25" is ideal for me . However I would definitely choose 27" Over a 23". As a student i don't ant to be squinting my eyes all the time trying to read the text. The pros of having a bigger monitor is you can always seat it a bit further away from your face if you feel the dot pixel is a bit too much.

For me i want to be able to enjoy watching a movie on netflix on a nice big screen while laying down on my bed. Not sitting constantly on my butt.

I just a got an Asus 27" VE278Q, coming from a 24" BenQ G2400W, which I've had for years. Taking a little getting used to, defintely a lot brighter, and of course bigger. So far I'm really liking it, I haven't noticed any lowered pixel quality because of the bigger size, and losing 120 lines from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 hasn't been an issue. Like with home theater projector screens, it is almost always better to error on the side of going bigger because most likely you'll get used to it.

My current settings for the VE278Q (close to my old BenQ "color look" when I compared side by side, but actually with a bit less red):

Standard
AI Light: Off
Brightness: 28
Contrast: 65
Color Temp: User R:100 G:98 B:90
Trace Free: 40

If I'm playing a competitive game I sit about 2 feet from the monitor and I think 24" is the perfect size as I can see the whole screen at once. If I'm lounging back playing bastion, super meat boy, or gta 4 with a gamepad I think the bigger the better. So I would recommend based on what type of gaming you do and if you need to be able to see the edges on both sides at all times (I do in LOL and I think with a larger screen I couldn't stay focused on the mini map and the the right edge of the game screen at the same time).

I've gamed on about every size/resolution and just the screen size you buy will have better immersion if you bought a 27''. It's just the same as if you played on console, would you rather game on a 32'' or a 24'' or a 27'' for that matter.

I'd pick up a 27'' monitor in your shoe
