Is the mounting hardware the same for x99 and x299? I couldn't find the dimensions online anywhere.

Hi,
Both are atx mother boards so yes same size.

It's not the chip set, brand, or manufacturer that determines the size. It's all been standardized. When looking at a particular motherboard, power supply, or computer case, it should give you the size in the specifications.

ATX, mATX, and E-ATX motherboards are going to be the most common. Most cases are made to accept ATX motherboards, which means they should accept mATX (micro ATX) as well since mATX is just shorter.

When dealing with E-ATX (Extended ATX ), you would need to know more specific measurements to ensure case comparability as some brands will use non-standard sizes at times.

Most cases are designed to accept ATX sized power supplies as well. ATX sizing on power supply has nothing to do with motherboard compatibility, just case compatibility.

There is also ITX, which isn't that common unless you are planing on building a very small computer. I'd avoid it unless you really need it to be compact for some reason. There will be many size restrictions when building something like this.

Thanks for the clarification I'm aware of the motherboard size conventions. I should have been more clear that I was wondering about the socket cooler mounting hardware dimensions.

Thanks, that's exactly the answer I'm looking for.
