Hey guys,

I'm looking to pick up a small speaker setup for my computer. Long story short, I was on a fairly large ht setup with 12" sub. I moved that to the tv in my computer room and have since been using my x34's built in speakers. They're alright for what I do on my computer (youtube, gaming, whatever) but they tend to crackle and buzz in some videos which is becoming annoying. up to this point I've resisted installing new speakers because I'm enjoying the lack of clutter a speaker system adds to the setup.

What I'm looking for is a decent sounding 2.0 stereo setup that is small. I want to keep clutter down to a min. As for budget I'm not 100% sure what I want to spend but am open to various price levels.

Any good suggestions for a set of small stereo speakers with minimal clutter added to my setup?

Thanks,

How small is small. From personal experience, the Edifier S880DBs are pretty small for powered bookshelf speakers and absolutely amazing sound for their price with every connection option you could ask for including an actually good aptx bluetooth connection if you wanted one less cable. Id buy them over the Audioengine A2s any day, but if you need smaller I think the A2s are probably still the go-to.

When I say amazing sound for their price, i'm talking in the category of consumer friendly low footprint, easy out of the box setup speakers. I know you could do better by finding big passive speakers and an amp etc but that's messy with a much larger footprint.

The edifiers are 5.4"W x 6.6"D x 9.1"H

A2s are 4"W x 5.25"D x 6"H

For the smaller end of small and effortless the Bose Companion 2 are actually pretty decent.

For a sort of small setup, Micca is probably the best option.

Edit: I started typing this reply before there were any other responses and got distracted. At the size you are looking for, there aren't going to be a lot of good sounding options.

I actually like the soundbar idea... Another option would be just wall mounting some decent sized speakers above/behind the monitors.

This small,

I have triple screen and they'll have to be placed in front of my screens.

I'd buy a set of speaker stands and take the speakers off the desk before I settled for tiny speakers like that.

I've never heard the powered PB42X that were recommended earlier but I have heard the MB42X and I own and use the RB42X and they can't be beat for the price. You'd need an amp for the MB42X/RB42X though.

Ah, yeah you're not gonna find a whole lot of options. Have you considered a soundbar? it'll take up more space in width but should be low enough to sit under your monitors? no cross speaker cables, and just a single optical into the pc..
I have. I need to get some measurements and see what I can fit there. Am worried about it getting in the way of my mouse cord though.

Picture of layout?

I used to have my TV above my monitors in my old computer room and just used the computer speakers for the TV, lol

Here's a picture of what I want to hook up the speakers, and my full layout. I now have a ups behind my monitors so I don't have the space for speakers there.

@The Pook -

I used to have my speakers mounted like that though I'd like to keep the clutter down. Also now have a ups where the speakers were mounted.

Yeah I'm thinking I might have to go with a sound bar. I really want something small form factor but want them to sound good.

Hi,
I'd just get a sound bar and mount it pretty much like the webcam is mounted = on top of the center monitor looks like the monitor has something to strap it too already ;)

Yeah I could get something set up. Think a sound bar is going to be the way to go here.

Ok guys,

These are 3 options I see at our local Walmart. We don't have a best buy or anything in the area so it's basically Walmart or ordering online. What do ya'll think about these?

Vizio SB3621n-E8B - $150 saw it mentioned last night when I was looking around at speakers. Has favorable reviews and the price is good. Kind of large though @36". Comes with a sub.

Bose Solo 5 TV Sound System - $200 Good size for my setup @ 21.5" no sub. Has bluetooth

LG 2.1 - $200 Need to read up on it more but it's at the higher end available in the area.

You said you plan to game with the speakers in the OP so I have no idea why anyone is seriously suggesting you get a sound bar.

Adding a sound bar to an existing 2.0/2.1/5.1/7.1 setup? Cool. Using a sound bar as your only audio output? pls no

Hi,
Sound bar rock dude not sure why you don't like them pook
I have a cheap Insignia 2.0 soundbar HSB318 50.us from bestbuy lol it does indeed rock it and comes with an adapter for single plug for regular computer connection :thumb:

I have a LG 2.0 on my t.v. it's okay too did not come with the cool pc ready adapter the Insignia came with though.

a lot of people find $20 bluetooth speakers awesome too.

I haven't heard many sound bars in home environments but I doubt a decent one wouldn't have enough sound for my usage. I mean, I've been mostly happy with my x34's janky built in speakers since I use my tv for movies and music.

My main concern with the sound bars I'm looking at is they are just too large.

Hi,
25.5" LG works pretty good about the shortest that I imagine will give good sound I have a short 11" Dell which needs the monitor too to actually work but it is no where near what the real sound bar sounds like :D

Now that I have the adapter I could swap them out see what it's like I'm pretty sure the LG would be better that the cheapo Insignia it was just a what the heck purchase actually see if it would work and it does work very well way better than any little twin speaker system does and I also have those too so I should know

I wouldn't worry about the length just center it over the monitor and be done.

I'd just get a bigger desk, lol, you have sooo much space!

But yeah, I don't get all the hate on sound bars. I've never used one on my computer but have one for my TV (+ sub + 2 rears) and I love the damn thing. LG SK8Y or something like that.

I'll have to take some measurements when I get home. See what kind of space I have. If that x34 were mounted I'd have plenty of space for a sound bar under the monitor but that would bring a lot more to the table and I want to avoid adding too much complexity.

Looking through some of the speaker suggestions I find those Bose, https://www.amazon.com/Bose-Companion-III-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B00CD1PTF0 interesting. They are larger then I wanted but I think they'd work. They're self contained and don't require an amp.

People who hate sound bars because they're sound bars are dumb, I agree. When used where they're supposed to, like being hooked up to a TV and/or to add in addition to an existing speaker setup, they make sense.

To use as a sole speaker on a gaming system OP said he games on, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

It's kind of funny because for the last 6 months or so the only games I've really played have been RuneScape and Minecraft. I mostly use my computer for watching youtube videos and finding stuff to buy nowadays. :)
