Everybody has their opinions and their experiences. For the last three years I had no issues with EK coolants in my three builds. This does not mean they are perfect! This only means that they worked for me.
None of us knows what percentage of those EK coolants have gunked up as none of us knows how much they sold til now. We all know that in most cases people don't go to forums to say how good the products they bought are but it is usually to seek help with an issue. So people complaining about a product is not a sure indication of a crappy product (every product can fail under specific conditions). Those coolants are all chemistry and a complicated one. Every component it the loop can at some point mess that chemistry up and **** things up. Soft tubing and even PETG are known to misbehave with certain coolants and this is why most of the pastel/solid colored ones are not recommended for prolonged use for instance. Temperature is also a factor. The hours the system is on also. Some coolants cant be run 24/7 or they degrade very fast.
There are many different factors that can **** things up. Some of you had issues with EK's coolants, OK. It happens. Some times more, some times less... but it happens and not only with EK's coolants but with other brands too.
For me, where I live in Europe the options are EK and... mostly that's it... I use them and I have had no issues... That is my experience and it might not be the same as yours (and it seems that it isn't for some of you) but I'm not attacking anyone here that doesn't agree with me, just stating facts.

mayhems X1 clear
Mayhems Biocide + inhibitor + series.
Aquacomputer Clear
Performance PCs Mod My Toys house brand

the rest is poop.

we're glad EK worked out for you, you got lucky... OR it's EK coolant from when they were rebranding MAYHEMS X1 CLEAR!!

EK won't void your warranty for using any of the products listed above

they will however void your warranty if you admit to using silver kill coils, OR ZERO additives at all

Hi,
Problem is your facts don't even match the op's experience nor mine so that it quite the pickle :)

Hi,
There i fixed it for you :p

"facts" none of that is fact based in the slightest.

what's facts is you won't find a single thread on OCN where Mayhems or Aquacomputer products have done with EK/Alphastool/Swiftech coolants have done to people's loops. the worst thing you'll find are reports of color shift.

EK was doing really well for awhile, AS THEY WERE REBRANDING MAYHEM'S PRODUCTS, but its all gone back to shart now that they aren't.

ModMyTOYS is PerformancePCs.

Huh? Are you saying that they are the same company, or that they both brand the same coolant as their own? I didn't even know that PPCS has their own coolant. I just searched and couldn't find any.

i meant ModMyToys(edited my post)

at least, I've always been under the impression they were one in the same, as modmytoys is next door to PPC.

thrash can probably link to it if you can't find it.

i've been using Mayhems X1 / Droppers series + balancing my pH for about ~7 years now, and my blocks always come out looking brand spanking new.

Where does EK source their coolant?

no one knows now that they aren't rebranding Mayhems X1. I'm gonna guess Mick's incredibly functional solution was just too expensive for them, so they've switched back to buying bulk ???? from China.

it always blows my mind when people literally throw themselves in front of a train to defend EK (companies that do nothing but slowly bait and switch their customers into buying trash)

Hi,
Modmymods is a spit off when frozen cpu died and another company I can't remember the name of it.

Since I have no easy access to any of the coolants/brands/companies you guys say are good/better/best I will not comment or give any opinions on them.
I have my experience and you have yours. I'll continue using what I have reasonable access to until the time it no longer works for me.
You should do the same with the brands/products you like.

By the way, I hope this thread doesn't turn into an EK bashing thread. I was just looking for an alternative coolant (and explaining why.)

I'm still using a EK water block (that's now has a blue tint to it) and several of their soft tube compression fittings.

Speaking of that waterblock... I found that soaking my reservoir parts in vinegar for about an hour would dissolve the blue stuff. Would it also be safe to soak the water block in vinegar? It's nickle plated with an acrylic top. (I've even started to wonder if I could just mix 1 part vinegar with 10 parts distilled water and run that in my loop for a few hours - before flushing several times with plain distilled water. That might be bad for the soft tubing, though.)

Yeah I'll have to tear my GPU block open one of these days to see how it's faring, but not happy with how my EK CPU block has turned out. Definitely won't be re-buying when I build my next rig. Apparently they don't like people running distilled water I heard, so screw 'em. I've always run distilled with biocide/anti-corrosion additives and never had problems with previous blocks from XSPC and I think Swiftech (whoever did the Hydrocopper block for the GTX 680). Looking at those Optimus blocks for the future.

I've always been scared off by these coolants that always seem to gum up people's systems, but sounds like Mayhems X1 is getting some kudos. Is that just the clear, or are their dyed coolants any good too? Just wondering for when I switch to hard line PETG in the next build, or if I am better off just painting the tubes.

Hi,
Yeah not having options sucks
I started with ek premix fluids and it was terrible experience all my blocks had stuff like this clogging them except it was acid green and navy blue crud
Hell to get out of rads/.... I still have nightmares

Good god that looks awful.

Those particles do look very bad! I never used EK Ekocoolant (only CryoFuel) so maybe that one is not a good one.
garyd9, regarding the vinegar, I cleaned my CPU block (and radiators also) with it but mine was copper without nickel plating. It was like new after that. The thing you should have in mind is that just running distilled water after that to clean the vinegar will not be enough! You need a solution that will bring the PH level back to normal or the acid that is still lurking inside will eat the components (rads first as they are the thinnest and the most exposed) I did it with baking soda in dissolved in water for about 30 minutes with some shaking and then 2 times (or more) with distilled water to clean the concoction.
Also regarding EK's dislike of distilled water, they have only ever said that you should not use distilled water Only! Distilled water with additives is OK. After all the CryoFuel concentrate is diluted 9 to 1 with Distilled water :) In the EK Community FB page I've seen this discussion many times and they voice their concerns only after somebody says they are using pure Distilled water with nothing else in it. (and again this is what I've personally seen. It may or may not been like that on other places)

BTW guys I don't know for you but every time I see something marked as "ECO"/"EKO" or "BIO" it is usually either very crappy, very expensive or both... :D
