could either put 8800gt or gt220 for gpu
550W CM PSU
250Gb seagate barracuda
320Gb WD Caviar Green

I think you could do either, you might get more money from one way though.

you would get more money parting it but usally takes longer to sell.

parted:

8Gb DDR3 1333 - $30 shipped
ASUS P8H61-M-LE USB3 - $50 shipped
8800gt - $25 shipped
gt220 - $20 shipped
coolermaster extreme powerplus 550W - $30 shipped
250Gb seagate barracuda - $20 shipped
320Gb WD Caviar Green - $22 shipped
belkin wireless g 150mbps pci card - $6 shipped
Cases around $40 each

as whole rig with windows around $320

i dont think i have heard of gumtree lol maybe becuase i have been in Thailand for sooo long now or have and forgot. worth a shot by the looks and probably better than selling on OCN since your right about shipping. i am sure you will find someone in Perth area that wants to buy this. GLES

Massive performance difference in most things and its overclockable!!!!
smile.gif
also what is your current gpu?
It's an i3 2100 in a AsRock Fatal1ty Z68.. So I'd say for most things even an i5 2500k would be a massive improvement, or a 3570k. Maybe grab a second GTX460 with the saved cash from the i7?

@OP Parting it out will get more money, maybe you could sell the stuff on eBay as parts? I'm in Tasmania and I sold my old CPU/RAM/GPU's on eBay and got top dollar. I sold the board here though and got a decent price too.

At the same time selling it as a whole on GumTree would/could net you a bit too, I'd put it up for $450 and see who looks at it, let it drop to $400 if it's a quick sale and they want to drop the price. It will sell for $400 easily though.

upgrade your cpu to 2500k or above.
upgrade that sloooow RAM
wink.gif

sell gtx 460 and upgrade GP or sli it.
What is your budget btw?

Sidenote sold the whole i3 rig for 400 and brought the wife a Nikon D5100
smile.gif

I later brought an EVGA GTX 670 from OCN marketplace. If your able to buy from their take a look great prices on few gen old but sill great stuff, eg sandy/ivybridge.Its shame the aussie dollar isnt worth as much now though :-/
Waht you thinking of doin?

EDIt why are your Ripjaw x's @ 1333mhz anyway? didnt know they came out at that speed? i have ripjaws 2x2Gb 1600 sticks doin nothin..... replaced em with samsung wonder RAM

Just curious, where did you get your wonderRAM from? I got mine shipped from a family friend in the states.

Question guys:
Is it ok to run 1866 rated speed memory frequency in i3 2100 ? if yes, will I encounter problems with it? Because for sure my system will automatically underclock the ram because i3 2100 only supports 1333 ram frequency. I'm planning to buy dual kit ram with 1866 rated speed because here in our country some shop do sell memory with 1600 and 1866 frequency and just the same price.

Why thread necro instead of asking in the appropriate section? There is a specific area for Intel related questions. This is an appraisal, and a dead one at that.

To answer the question, it should just downclock to 1333.

hey man no need to be harsh. In regards to the question i did try using 1600 ripjaws with my i3 2100 and at first it caused a bit of stutter. i think it was because windows was used to the previous 8gb installed compared to 4gb not sure though.I see alot of people with high end ram and an i3 cpu so should work. where you located btw?

#22 ·
There will be an Increase in performance for sure because right now 4gb of ram is not enough in my case. I usually play and surf a lot and while playing sometimes I feel a bit laggy if I have tons of tabs in my browser and moving from tabs to tabs, I feel a little delay but not much while I have a opened application ex. games, and extracting large files. This triggered me to upgrade my rams to higher capacity or higher frequency. 2500k is an unlocked cpu, and 1333 frequency is the "officially" supported frequency of that cpu. But you have the choice if you want to go higher. My board says it can support "up to" 2100mhz(OC).

#24 ·
Ok then I'll go for 1866.

This are the rams that I might consider, G.Skill 1866 cl9 vs Corsair vengeance 1600 cl9. I really like the heatspreader of the corsair vengeance, but the price is higher than the G.Skill, even thou it has higher freq. What do you prefer? I know they are both reliable but should I stick with the G.Skill 1866?

By the way thanks for answering my queries.

If your worried about price get the gskill. your cpu will bottlekneck your rig before your ram speed comes into play even if they were 1333. but if you like the looks of the vengeance get that it will also be better in the long run if you decide to upgrade cpu. the corsair do look beter. another consideration is, will it affect the clearance of the cpu cooler? just something to think about if cpu upgrade on the horizon.
EDIT
Im pretty sure the corsair will overclock to match the gskill anyways

Wasn't trying to be harsh. Just letting them know there is a specific place suited for these questions. This site has a section for just about everything.

I was using 1600mhz memory on my htpc, which is an i3 2100. There were never any stutter issues that you speak of. It should work just fine. What application is this going to be used for?

Just for future reference, though. The Intel section of the boards is here: http://www.overclock.net/f/4/intel
