The RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT share the same PCB design. The AMD Reference PCB (2x8-pin) has room for 6 power stages on the left and 10 power stages on the right, with ? of them allocated for memory. This means that the RX 6900 XT reference PCB has a maximum of ?? power stages for the GPU.

This ones gonna be popular.

#4 ·
pretty tempted to go with AMD this time, just as a FU to nvidia for their ridiculous "launch".
Nvidia is still gonna be sending 3000 series out to customers when the 6800xt drops... do it!

I wonder if they will have a waterblock for the 6800XT?

Hardware labs said in the watercooling section that they would.

My hunt for a 3080 has ended.

Neck and neck performance, $50 less, 20w less, 6gb more vram. Yes, yes, and yes!

I didn't expect AMD's showing to be this strong. So strong that they'd feel confident enough to price the 6800 above the 3070, which will be a controversial move imo. Looking forwarded to getting my hands on one of these... 6 months after scalpers and the shoe bot bois final relinquish some stock to consumers.

Hoping against hope is a wasteof energy. I don't expect any improvement in stock on these cards until AMD gets a much larger 7nm wafer allocation from TSMC. Over 85% of AMD's allocation from TSMC is going to Playstation and Xbox console chips. That leaves only 15% of their allocation for Epyc server cpus, for Ryzen and Threadripper cpus, for APU's , and finally 6000 series gpu chips. Not enough wafers from TSMC. AMD knew this would happen. Some fools want to blame it all pm the Pandemic and miners. But no a lot of it was greed from AMD. They wanted those console contracts and they get first priority for AMD's 7nm silicon. We are left out in the cold. Some yokels think that AMD could not predict the demand. That is also b.s. It was evident after the poor showing of the 5000 series on the high end and the grossly priced Turing architecture from Nvidia that people were holding back on purchasing gpus for the past 2 years. This was a case of pent up demand and AMD had to know that the 600 series gpus with RDNA2 were going to be significantly better performers than the previous generation. SO they should have assumed they could at least double their market share if the produced enough. They should have arranged with the Samsung foundry to put the consoles on their 5nm chips which are roughly equivalent or slightly better than TSMC 7nm. Then they would have enough wafers to provide for all their commitments.

I'm sitting on $1500 since they announced the launch of the Nvidia cards, now I'm just going to wait a little more till the buffet table is prepped with all the goodies on it and reviews are out
A 6900XT that equals the power of a 3090 at a price I can afford... hell yeah!

Some partner cards being shown off today, in order; ASUS ROG RX 6800 XT Strix LC, ASUS ROG RX 6800 XT Strix OC, ASUS RX 6800 XT TUF OC and MSI RX 6800 XT Gaming X Trio, all four of them are 2x8-Pin since 6800 XT model, perhaps (unlikely) we get to see some 3x8-Pin on RX 6900 XT, but so far no mention of RX 6900 XT custom models.

We just learned the dimensions of all 3 cards thanks to SAPPHIRE, they list the products already, they're selling Reference design;

RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT
Dimension: 266.7(L)X 119.75(W)X 49.75 (H)mm
267 x 120 x 50mm (2.50 Slot)

RX 6800
Dimension: 266.7(L)X 119.75(W)X 39.75 (H)mm
267 x 120 x 40mm (2.00 Slot)

They are seriously tiny, and can beat both 3080 and 3090, very impressive.

Definitely in for a 6800XT if I can get my hands on one, seems like the best deal. Starting from 6800 you pay 80 bucks more, you get 12 more CUs, more clockspeed, and like 20% more performance it looks to be around? Then from that to the 6900XT, it's 250 more dollars for only 8 more CUs and barely 10% more performance? Just doesn't make sense but... neither does the 3090.

Sapphire lists outputs as 1x HDMI, 2x DP, 1x USB-C. I'm hoping some of the board partners do at least 2 HDMI 2.1.

My Next GPU, 99% sure about it.
Now give me a Sapphire Toxic :p

Will wait to see what waterblocks come out and which cards end up being the best, but am heavily leaning 6800XT for next build.

Is it likely that there will be waterblocks for this card?

#33 ·
So, haven't had an AMD card since ATI. Was wondering if the reference card with a waterblock will be enough or if it is better to wait for AIB partners?

I've got enough to get one card. I don't plan on playing the dancing cards of buying and selling to buy another. Would you guys recommend waiting for third party cards and risking them selling out, or just try to pick one of them up day one?

#34 ·
If the priority is to buy only one card and to get a card on day one, then I'd go for the reference as it's the most-likely version that manufacturers will make a waterblock for. Otherwise, I'd wait for official waterblock announcements.

I have to wonder if the GPU's will be flashable/unlocked into more core units like the 290's were and the 6950-6970's were.
considering the mem /bus etc is all the same otherwise.

#39 ·
I saw nothing on sale :/

I think I got one? I don't really know! I certainly managed to get an order through and paid for it, and the Add To Basket option disappeared a couple of minutes after I placed my order.

Whether that means I'll get one in the first batch, or if I'll be queued, I don't know!

EDIT: Now I've read through the forum on the site I bought it on I've realised I probably didn't get it and most likely will be refunded because they're not queuing for the MBA cards. Probably for the best, as the price was inflated anyway.

#45 ·
If it's paid it should be fine. Or it's supposed to be unless they ****ed up.
They did screw up, in the sense that it's confirmed in the forums that they've taken many more orders than they have stock for. So either I'll get a shipping notification, or a cancellation and refund. Don't know which yet. People who got their orders confirmed 3 minutes before me are getting shipping notifications, but I'm not hopeful.

I ordered from Overclockers.co.uk.
