Are LGA1155 Xeons compatible with the H61 chipset?

Pretty simple question I do believe. Our wonderful Intel Editor already helped me alot on this, but also suggested that I make a thread on the issue which I am now doing.

I'm referring to the Xeon E3-1230, 1270, etc. That line of Xeons. Do they play nicely with H61 chipsets? I know I'll probably need a dedicated GPU to see anything but... That's not a problem.

And when you answer, I'd REALLY appreciate the source link that you pull your info from. It would be a shame to drop $250 on a CPU that I can't use....

Thanks guys!

EDIT- Just realized you're using a Dell OEM mobo? Just call them. Some OEM boards are designed (mostly via BIOS) to only work with certain chips.
Nope. It's a modded Dimension 3000 case, but the board came from Intel. I ordered it from the 'Egg.

It does? Where did you find that out?

Edit:

As mentioned in my PM, a simple BIOS update could enable support for a CPU that is not listed above, obviously considering whether or not it is compatible, however, it's a good sign that it does support the E3-1260L as trumpet said, maybe get in touch with Intel in regards to that. No point buying it and finding out that you cannot use it. Enquire about a BIOS update and compare the E3-1260L to the E3-1270 and see what is the difference between the two.

Hm.... So here's what I got from Intel...

Nathan: Thank you for contacting Intel Server Support Chat Services. We are glad to be of service. My name is Nathan, May I know on what Intel Server Product do you need support on?

: Hello Nathan. I would like to know which Xeon processors are compatible with my motherboard, an Intel DH61WW

Nathan: I apologize but for server processors (Xeon) validation is only done for server boards and workstations.

Nathan: No type of testing has been done nor will be done for desktop based products.

: Okay. So even though the Sandy Bridge Xeons are LGA1155 based, and this is an 1155 board, the H61 chipset means that you don't know for sure?

Nathan: It is not that I do not know. It is based on the fact that it has not been tested and the Xeon is not intended for desktop products.

: Hm. Okay. Well what chipset IS certified as compatible with Sandy Bridge Xeons?

Nathan: Unless a Xeon processor is specified on the qualified processor list of a desktop board then by default it is considered incompatible.

Nathan: C200 series chipset.

: Alright. That's what I need to know. Thank you Nathan.

The Xeon brand is Intel's flagship for reliability, so they're bound to say that the Xeon E3s are incompatible with certain desktop boards if Xeon level validation hasn't been performed on that particular CPU/Motherboard combination. The other posters have said the E3-1220L is listed as compatible for the DH61WW, but Intels processormatch website seems to be down at the moment. Another website seems to confirm the E3-1220L and 1260L as compatible.

The quad core Xeon E3s are the same D2 stepping as desktop i5s and i7s, so I think that the chance the board will boot one of those CPUs is extremely high. I also think the CPU will work perfectly, given that the E3-1220L is on the CPU support list. There is a small possibility that the motherboard will boot but not recognize the procossor - in that case you might see Intel Processor Model Unknown on the boot screen, or something to that effect. If that happens there could be irregularities with turbo mode and power saving states. I really think the chance of anything but full compatibility is extremely low.

As far as I know there are people running Xeon E3s on P67, H67 and Z68 motherboards without issue, the only question is whether this Intel branded H61 board will work. I tend to think it will.

DH61WW may Freeze within six month use

I have three Intel DH61WW Motherboards with i3-2100. I faced freezing problem on all three mobos for last one year. And each mobos are replaced lots of times from Intel RMA(Digicare) and all mobos show same problem. I waste my lots of time for it.

The problem is it turn off within a half hour and not turn on quickly. This problem shows even it was working on CMOS setting menu by F2 key when it was connected only to the display, memory, keyboard & cpu with a well worked PSU.

Also, sometimes the DH61WW motherboard PCs turn off without a reason and it may working after a while.

All Voltages are perfectly shows even after freeze. And all motherboard components are working good. Also all temperature values below in 55°C.

In my experience the DH61WW may not ahead a period of six month, if use at least 8 hours per day. And the replaced DH61WW is stopped working with in few days.

I feel DH61WW/H61 chipset has a bug. So no one purchase a H61 chipset motherboards as blind. Coz Intel may continue this dirt chipset for there new 22nm Ivy Bridge processor.

He has already bought the board. Anyways, ask Nathan that even though Intel's own proccesor match says its compatible, you don't think it is?
