Best Motherboard for i9 9980Xe?

I think I've decided to get the 9980Xe. I want the best motherboard for this CPU - purpose of the rig is dual - gaming AND content creation (4K, 5K, and 8K photo/video editing etc.).

What motherboard should I get? I was set on the Asus RVIE but I've heard it's not the best (?). How about the EVGA X299 Dark? Or would any workstation board be better overall?

I do plan on OC'ing the CPU as much as possible - paired with a Kraken X62 (CPU AIO cooler). Need 64GB of RAM (at least) - prefer 4000Mhz - which model/brand should I get?

Need to get M2 drives as well - going with 970 Pro - going to RAID-0 a couple of them - so the mobo needs to support that.

Would appreciate any good advice on this.

TIA.

I am using Asrock OC Formulas with a re-lid 7980xe and a 7920x; strong VRM's and OC features.

Rampage VIE I have it for the last 9 months and it is the best motherboard I ever had....You won't find any other x299 with the Rampage features. Heck, I am even controlling 17 fans & 2X D5 Pumps through Q-FAN all connected to onboard connectos and they work perfectly with curves tied to thermal sensors.

If you get it just go for a seperate VRM waterblock + CPU block for it if thinking about delidding a 7980XE (can't do it easily with 9980XE)....But what are you looking for really?

I think I'm going to wait for the 28-core CPU. The 9980Xe has been a dud in terms of OC'ing from what I've seen so X599 it is.

Hi,
Yep nothing good I've seen either
Binning through dud chips is going to cost way too much to bother with SL or other.

Rampage VI Apex, not that I am biased lol. It can supply the power to a 5 GHz 7980XE no problem.

The 7980XE can outclock the 9980XE - but only when delidded.

It all depends if you favor style or performance! The ASRock X299 OC Formula is without a doubt the undisputed king of X299, at least in terms of overclocking. While its certainly not the prettiest looking, the overclocking prowess and overall efficiency cannot be ignored.

Sorry, but have heard and see evidence to the contrary. The 7980 delidded with LM cannot touch off the shelf 9980, I have heard this from at least 3 different sources within the top XOC world. Take the Cinebench R15, 18 core global world record for example, it was done with 9980XE + OCF: http://hwbot.org/submission/4024043_splave_cinebench___r15_core_i9_9980xe_5868_cb

The EVGA Dark have the best VRM cooling of all X299, most boards have a stupid fancy piece of aluminum that does nothing for cooling and for a 18c/36t CPU that is main concert because takes LOTS of power. But have some compromises only has 4 dimm slots and is E-ATX so it will not fit in most mid-tower cases.

Hi,
Haven't read anything bad about the two tiny little vrm fans yet

I know my single on my x99 sabertooth is very high pitched screaming little bugger luckily it doesn't come on all that much
I only hear it after shut down when it's the only fan that runs for 30-45 seconds anti dust feature.

Supposedly you can disabled them on the Dark and the heatsink keeps the VRM temps very reasonable (at least per the GamerNexus video)

Guys what is going on with the availability of X299 boards? I'm in west EU and everything except the low/midrange stuff is gone, out of stock or even NLA. The best ASUS board you can get here is the Strix XE...same for GB with the Designare being the best I can find. Asrock boards? Nothing, all gone.
Are they phasing out X299 or what?

IMO, don't get the Strix. It's a decent overclocking board, but the VRMs get pretty hot. I was looking for a Rampage Extreme or Omega and found an Omega. Give it a look on Asus' site, pretty impressive.
